So far in my current WIP, the weirdest I have are the Darkkon. They are shapeshifters that exist naturally in a gaseous form. They are telepathic and control their ships by linking their minds directly with the computer. They are also able to enter an organic's brain and take control.

I also have the Sagans, which are similar to the Darkkon but existing as energy instead of gas. These are the creators of life in the Universe.

Demons, which are souls corrupted by their defiance of the ruling gods in my universe. Usually, their spirits are twisted by the gods to a twisted, more malevolent version of themselves.

Then there are the fallen gods, which are just as they sound: Old gods who were defeated in an ancient war that started long before there was even a planet Earth. They wander the universe, severely weakened (though still nobody you want to piss off), looking for ways to rise back into full godhood through rituals which require sacrifice of pure humans (no animals, supernatural creatures, or even mages) and usually the destruction of other fallen gods.

In my opinion, the craziest race is the human race and I don't have to invent anything to figure that out. All I have to do is look around...

Forgive me for Necroposting, but I figured I would chip in. I recently created a group, or cult, called The Librarians. They are a group of powered individuals who dress like plague doctors who's sole purpose is to obtain knowledge, primarily about other empowered people. They operate in complete secrecy and aren't above murdering to keep their existence a secret. They are organized into a caste system, being headed by a council of Curators, who in turn are headed by the Arch-Curator. Ultimately they are harmless enough unless you cross them, or learn any of their secrets. They view their knowledge as sacred, and should not be given out to people until the time is right, or unless they have similarly valuable information. And even then, once the information is given, they tend to tie up loose ends...

I really like your race Zashik. they seems really intriguing species ... would love to read your story .

In one of my stories there is a group of supernatural beings . I call them " Soul Melters " haven't came up with any good name yet. They are just 4-5 inch tall and are dark skinned . They wear tattered rags , nobody has seen them and there faces are always hidden beneath a hood. They live in a cave at the base of Mount. Sarahu (named after the god of lost souls Dizo Sarahu ) . There task is to find the souls that are lost , Souls that have finished there re-birthing circle and now are just wandering the world without any purpose. They find these souls and bring them to there cave where under the guidance of there leader Ozari they melt them to make a white , semi transparent liquid called "Yijvi" (named after Ila yijvi the goddess of life) . Then they pour the Yijvi into a big crack in the ground that reaches the heart or core of the earth , which connects those souls to the circle of life again.

They are small and creepy, they look harmless but they are well skilled in magic and the arts of war ( souls usually don't go in peace with them ), but they keep away from humans as often as they can.

Thanks. Currently I don't know if they will be in my first book they are more part of the background at this point but I plan to write most my books (if I can) from the Darkness Plague Universe that I have created.

And they sound pretty cool and creepy.

I've got an idea for some odd aliens in a one-off story I have planned - they come from the planet Ael and look a lot like Santa Claus, but their red and white clothes are simply the uniforms they wear in battle. They've been stranded on Earth for almost a century, trying to improve the state of our technology by leaving us gifts. Once we reach their level of scientific knowledge, they plan to ask for our help in repairing their space craft so they can return home.

They also have a crew of small robotic elves. All hell breaks loose when somebody accidentally pushes the "Elf Destruct Button".

The craziest group/race in my novel is the homo sapien. They're more a species than a group or race, I'd say. They communicate via speaking through their mouths in a language I've called English. I like the scope this species gives; two arms, two legs, one head. Most of the time they walk, but they can also run... apart from the 'fatties' who find if difficult to run because of their larger size.

My species also come in two types - male and female, the latter of which is able to give birth to more homo sapiens, after fertilization by the male types has taken place.

I wrote a satire about the effects of the "not if we were the last two people on earth" troupe. The concept was that a few thousand years earlier (present day) humans nearly went extinct, and as it was it came down to the last 2 people alive to repopulate the planet. Unfortunately they were brother and sister, so future humans are now all inbred nutjobs and physical freaks. Needless to say their customs, actions, and values no longer resemble what we consider human. It was all written as comedy, and was meant to raise questions like "how far do we need to go before we no longer are recognizable as humans anymore?"

That's rather simple for me to answer; all my stories play in a group of different verses that all have certain characters on either a sci-fi or fantasy "genre level" (or both), and some of those those interact with each other on occasion throughout the timeline(s) (not that these people and interactions even matter to a majority of my stories - most of them simply aren't fantasy or sci-fi - but I still like to have a straightforward, clear canon for myself to place stories into).
That's why it's easy for me to pick - I don't have to compare stories, I can just see it all as one large blob of multi-world canon and compare all the groups or races directly.

And comparing them like THAT... hmm, I'd have to choose either the Dark Witches of Vasticia or the Ethereals of Vaelen.

The Ethereals are not evil-crazy, but still pretty much weird fanatics.
They are all female, and they praise females (so, themselves) as superior beings, the only true godlike leaders of Vaelen.
Admittedly, they are half-gods of sorts, but their level of self-worship and feeling of utter superiority (also in terms of sheer power, purposefully ignoring the fact that even a single Great White Witch from Vasticia could rip them all to shreds) is baffling.

The other... group would be the Great Dark Witches (/ Witchers) from Vasticia.
They're the same as Great White Witches (half-human, half-demon beings that can use stupidly powerful magic and are able to wander the Void, the endless and largely empty "upper layer" of Vasticia in which all its parallel universes with normal worlds exist), with the one difference that they give in to the negative and destructive feelings that magic brings with itself, which also makes them much more powerful.
That effectively makes them intelligent, yet mindless machines of destruction capable of throwing entire worlds into oblivion - but they're also incapable of wanting anything else.
They're beings seeking nothing but to satisfy their desperate need for destruction and death... so I guess you could also very well say they're more pitiful than anything.

    Yeah.
    That's my two cents.

Very interesting to read what you all contribute! : )

My most unusual character is an "Upbreeder."
This person passes on divine blood (DNA from Gods/Goddesses) to their offspring. The nifty part is that if she mates with anyone who also has divine blood in their gamete the upbreeder part attaches to the other sequenced DNA, thereby concentrating the amounts of divine blood with each successive generation until they get around to actually begetting more Gods. (The gods are, understandably, not happy about this.)

    Example
    Generation 1:
Upbreeder Mom is 1/4 Divine, she passes on all divine DNA. Normal Dad is 1/8 Divine, he passes on half (1/16) his divine DNA.
    Resulting offspring is 5/16 Divine.

    Generation 2:
Upbreeder Mom (offspring from generation 1) is 5/16 Divine and passes on all divine DNA. Normal Dad is 1/4 Divine and passes on half (1/8) of his divine DNA.
    Resulting offspring is 7/16 Divine.

Sorry Guys, but Upbreeders are only women. If the upbreeder produces a male child it's gametes subject to normal genetic recombination groups and crossing over just like the rest of us.

My current novel is built around existing faerie mythologies, though I do put a little bit of spin on some of them, particularly those who lack any real description.
In the past, though, I was half of a webcomic duo which played much more loosely with legendary creatures. For starters, there were the Wrong People. Disposable flunkies of one of the magical world's major powers, they were made of biomass distilled from corpses and animated by inserting the shredded remains of ghosts. They were hunched, twisted, and spindly, with disproportionate limbs. Translucent skin showed the rotten muscles beneath. Their fingers were long and sharp, like the legs of a large spider. Chitinous spines grew from their heads instead of hair. They often often stitched people's faces on over their own, which allowed them to assume their identity.
That's just one of the races we concocted.

Probably the Tein race for me.

The Tein race are the offspring of their progenitor and divinity, Ibiki. They are typically a meter or so in height and possess rather frail bodies. Often with blonde hair, blue eyes and peach skin, the race cannot be passed off as human by proportions alone. Also, the outward projecting triangular ears and fuller faces are clear indicators of a Tein from a human child. While weak physically, they are above average in terms of human intelligence. they are commonly the administrators of settlements of humans and many humans will often bear a special mark signifying their direct connection to a Tein house. It is not the males of the race to be weary of, for they are rather docile, but the females make up for it in spades. They pound the table, berate, yell and are quick to fight in domestic and business matters. The female warrior caste of the Tein are notorious because they will raise an army of men that are not of their own race. She will devote her life and spirit to them in return for risking their lives in a specific conflict. They cannot gain reinforcements and she will be branded for each of her men who dies from the conflict. There are many rites and ceremonies for such a task, including an appeal before Ibiki to bless the conflict itself.

These female commanders will directly lead their respective groups into combat, screaming out orders and often attempting to execute the enemy commander in personal combat. They charge into battle with only footwear, a special loincloth, wrapping over their breasts and their weapon. They reject armor out of weight and mobility concerns and refuse even simple garbs in favor of a complex set of markings on their bodies. Their arms will be covered in symbols used for giving orders, their chests will display the print of each man under their control and her back will display the symbol of her house. If a Tein foregoes any leg coverings, the personal history of her house will be shown on her right leg and the left leg will bear her own history. Showing themselves in such a fashion is more than a psychological attack on the enemy. Not just because the female form will dull the reactions of the enemy or the markings will terrify the enemy, but because Tein are lunatics. Literally, the moonlight on their skin lets them slip into a state of bloodlust with ease. Tein commanders are as ruthless as they are agile and will maximize every advantage they can get. And their preferred weapons are slashing-piercing weapons to capitalize on their speed and stature against their opponents.

If they are defeated or captured, a Tein is expected to kill herself. If she is victorious, the Tein must fulfill the obligations to the men she rallied to her cause, typically founding a settlement on the land of the defeated enemy. Then until the day she dies, the commander will personally care and defend her men, their families and their children with all of her being. When the Tein has children of her own, her house will continue to care and manage the settlement.

The strangest race I have probably made is the Floroqui. They are sentient plant/animal hybrids capable of sending and receiving electrical impulses through their roots, allowing them to control robotic bodies. They are extremely flexible in what they be used for and what they can do as they have no natural senses or abilities. The plant part of them is based on trees, giving them very long life spans.

They have many different shapes and sizes because of this nature. Some are able to pass themselves off as human wearing a robotic power suit. Others look nothing like humans, instead having animal like appearances. Others still are not one continuous form, but controllers of factories and other places. Most are able to change their body by detaching a "head" module from their current body and placing it on another body.

They were originally created to control important machines in a brutal war. Unfortunately, they were not finished until the end. The government, wanting to keep this innovation secret after it had ended, killed the scientist and engineers working on the project and began decommissioning the Floroqui that were already active.

A few of them caught wind of what was happening. Most of these were soldiers, designed to look like they were standard power suit wearing humans. They fled, going into hiding and taking on secret identities. The ones that are left tend to be loners, talking to no one. Each one has their own plans, and have forever to figure out how to accomplish them.

    It's still a draft.
Mine is a not so intelligent creature.
They basically just an eyeball with snakelike body with hard scales that immune to blade cuts.
Instead of tails they have a mouth with a really sharp teeth to devour their prey.
They excrete with a hole at their stomach, that hole is also for laying eggs.
They usually waiting for their prey in silence with eye position higher than the mouth, so they basically forming an unbalanced U position.

They are parasites that really hard to get rid off.
Once they sink their teeth inside their prey's flesh they won't let it go while start eating it until the prey is dead.
Humans usually just pull them even if it makes some of their flesh ripped off.
They usually live at the forest.
If there's two of them at one animal or human it's a couple of mating parasites.
After mating the mother will lay her eggs inside the prey.
A female parasite can lay 100 eggs at once but only 10-20 survived because those bro and sis is killing each other to get as much food as they can.
When it's hatching time the kids will eat the prey from inside while their parents let go to search for another prey.
The kids will continue to eat until the prey is only nothing but bones.

I think it still needs some changes because i find this a little unbelievable.

I have a collection of various fairy-like humanoid races, in my WIP urban fantasy, called the Fae Folk.
Among the constituent races are obvious and fairly restrained choices like fairies, elves and nymphs. I also have some diverse choices like goblins and trolls.
But the weirdest race amongst the Fae, and in my world in general, is probably the spriggans. They are a more obscure legend, and they look weird.

I've got two: Pyrics, a group of people that inhabit a set of islands off the continent my work is set. Largely viking/norse inspired, though worshipping a Lovecraftian fire deity. When they first started worshipping the being it turned some into essentially heat based vampires. They look forward to "The Dawn", an event where the lovecraftian creatures will start destroying the world, and where they get to ride across the sea, pillaging as they like.

Next is Hicrane, a city state that controls large amounts of trade. Have one of the few magic items left in the world which is a terraforming device (which keeps their peninsula habitable,) that requires blood sacrifices on a two-month basis. They happen after the end of a two-week event which is a carnival where they invite as many people as possible. Most people come, but leave a day or two in advance, though some locals capture their guests and let them free on the night so they can be hunted down.

I've got two cults in one of my worlds. They're the Cult of the Rising Sun and the Cult of the Setting Sun (They call themselves the House of the Rising Sun and the House of the Setting Sun). They hate each other and are basically in an ideological war with each other.

One day, a woman who could see the future got a vision of two very powerful beings existing in the near future. One could control light, and the other could control darkness. The woman said that they would fight, and the winner would ascend to godhood. The Cult of the Rising Sun wants to help the light-being, and the Cult of the Setting Sun wants to kill it before it can fight the shadow-being. They both view these two beings as demigods; higher than everyone else on the divine scale. They also believe that the winner will take with them people that they deem worthy, hence the reason they want their specific one to win so bad.

The thing is, they're both fucking wrong. The vision was mostly correct; they do fight, but it's not for any kind of power. They have a history together and it just kind of led to them fighting. They're regular people who just so happen to be able to control obscure elements (special abilities among a certain group of people is nothing new in this story).

So, these two cults started a thought-war with each other on the basis of a woman seeing a fight happen in the future (Note that her ability doesn't have to show her events that are important to the world at large), and extrapolated that these must be demigods fighting for godhood.

I like this because, in every instance that a member of one of these cults is present, they hype up these two people as higher powers with a divine purpose, but they're just regular people who seem more important than they actually are.
