Times like this us writers are supposed to have all the answers on how to say just the right thing. Yet I don't have answers.

What I do have is my own truth; which is.

You have value and are loved by some you know now and by others you will soon meet. Whether romantic or friendship or otherwise and that while things may suck now; suck can't last forever. I am not sure if my words hit there intended meaning but I wish good things for you in the future. Whatever my words my be worth.

I care about you and hope you feel better.

PS I also hope the cookie monster figured out you aren't a snicker doodle. ;)

Three months ago, I went to see a friend who owns a salon. I was currently working at a different salon. The second I stepped into the door, she asked me to come work for her. She told me how smart I was, said that she needed a manager, and that she saw me as that person. She took me to lunch, talked to me about the things she could do for me, and told me that I could work whatever days I wanted to. I told her that I'd like a day off for writing, and since my husband works on the days I have off, I could spend Friday (his day off) with him, and use Monday (the day the salon is closed and my husband works) for writing. She told me she'd look at the schedule to see if there was enough coverage on that day, or if a different day would be better. She checked, and approved me having Fridays off.

Yesterday, she and I went to grab a beer and she broke the news that she's hiring a girl from a different corporate salon to manage our salon, since she has corporate experience. I worked in the corporate world doing project management for a year and a half, outside of my 7+ years of experience behind the chair. My numbers show that I'm the most productive in the salon, with the highest in retail sales to services ratio (this is where a salon makes any money), etc. This girl, however, is supposed to be somehow more experienced in having managed a salon, but there aren't any proven numbers to back anything up.

Tonight, she called me and asked me to work on Fridays. Apparently the front desk had to turn a client of another stylist away because she was booked, when they could have put that client with me. She says that when she told me I could have Fridays off, she said it might change. I don't recall her ever saying that. What I'm more confused about is that the other stylist works on a more part-time basis than I do, and this was her client that was turned away. Why isn't she calling the other girl and asking her to work more hours? I have gaps in my books on the days I already work. I'm not to the point that I need to pick up an entire day for one appointment, when that appointment could easily be fit in on the days that I work.

I'm beginning to feel quite used. :meh:

Ouch. That stinks. One of the reasons to avoid bussiness with friends. THough I wish life could just be simple enough not to require such BS mixed in. I wish you luck in how things work out. :)

The kitten is fine. It is merely in a blue blanket. :D

I am nothing but a promise. A promise to a man that is to my brother in-law, a promise I wish not to break. He is my little brother in law (though he is a big teddy bear, that served in the 82nd Airborn) he is who I promised. I cannot break that promise no matter how hard it is to keep. I have PTSD from childhood as well (abusive father). I know that the sucky part can't last forever, but it sure feels like it does. Thank you for your kind words. :) Not looking forward to my second anniversary of divorce that just so happens to be two days from what would have been my 6 year anniversary ( married for 4 of the nine years). Been hitting the bottle hard, and I know I should not. Thank you again for y0ur kindness. :)

I think you should be looking for another position elsewhere. She promised you things that didn't materialize. Maybe she decided she had to renege on them for the sake of her business. You should do the same for yourself and your family who you want to spend more time with. If she can hire someone else, then it's not as if you're leaving her in a lurch.

I was in a position once at an organization that promised it would have the funds to hire me full time again after being temporarily demoted to part-time in the summer when business was slow. My hours were cut again the next summer. They saw they got away with it and tried it again. I regret not having left earlier.

The problem is that in my industry, I work on commission and rely on clients. Every time I move, I lose a lot of money. Sigh.

Sorry to hear that. Is there a way to let your regular clients know if you end up not moving too far away? I hope things work out for you.

Been dog / house sitting for my brother since last Saturday and I've had enough. I just want to get back to the familiarity of my own house, even if it is a crap hole in comparison. Also fed-up of taking the damn dog for walks.

See, that's precisely why I have a cat. Dogs are extroverts and cats are introverts. They will love you a lot, but they need their alone time, too. They're just misunderstood by the general population. :p

I dont have any pets. I've too selfish a nature for caring.

And speaking of cats, there's quite a few in my brother's street that like to annoy his dog by sauntering past the gate, knowing he can't get out to chase them. Sometimes they just stop and sit there, watching him bark himself dry...and I'm sure they do it with a smile on their face.

I live in Richmond, but I hate it. I joined the City Data forum and tried to figure out a good city to move to. I fell in love with Pittsburgh, so I posted a thread, asking people if it's truly what it appears to be.

A girl reached out to me. Becky. Said she also lives in Richmond and is considering moving to Pittsburgh. She asked to have lunch, swap stories and research about Pittsburgh. I Googled her screen name because I wanted to know more about who I was meeting with (didn't want a serial killer, you know). She seemed a lot like me. She's a writer. Has a travel blog. Married. Normal looking. She's a traveler. She goes all over the world. And it's always been my dream to do that. It was actually my plan once I had enough money to do it. So I thought we could really get along.

I was really excited about it. I don't have any friends here. They're all back home in Illinois. And I don't work, so I can't meet anyone there. I'm too shy and nervous to join a meet-up group. Being surrounded by 30+ people I don't know terrifies me. And if I meet someone on the street that I think is cool, I'm too socially awkward to ask them to hang out some time. So I was looking forward to making a friend.

We set up a time to meet. Friday at noon. I gave her my cell number so we could figure out a place. She didn't respond for three days. It's Friday at noon. And she never reached out. I just got stood up by someone who made the plan in the first place.

Tomorrow's my birthday. This is the worst present ever.

    @Lea`Brooks

Aw Lea I'm sorry that happened to you :( but still happy Birthday and hope you feel better! :D But allow me to give you some help for your birthday, kay? Pittsburgh (and I assume the surrounding area) huh? Well let me teach you the way of the Burgh.

If you move here you will no longer wash your clothes but warsh them and rubberbands will from now on be gumbands.

Kennywood is open when someone's zipper is down and of course the big one is you gotta say 'yinz'.

So you have to say stuff like "What are yinz doin?" or "What a yinz up to?"

Now on to some other stuff.

NEVER EVER EVER insult the Steelers (unless its a bad year but still make sure to proclaim our six super bowl victories in the face of doubters), also be sure to spread the glory of the Penguins and laugh at Pirates but still go to the Pirate games just cause.....that's what we do.

Also beware the great Deer GOD that now haunts the Carrie Furnace

Me and my friends used to go into that steal mill when were kids (it was abadoned) and the first time I saw that THING I was pretty freaked out but now she's like an old friend, some some artists built in the 90s.

    Hmmmm

Pittsburg and all that Dahntown (which is Pittsburg talk for Downtown), North Side, South Side, The Burbs etc.

    It all different.

Pittsburgh is the kinda city where every part is very different from each other in the sense that they all have a different look and feel to the, for example I am currently in the ghetto part of East Liberty on Lincoln ave in my apartment.

People have gotten shot quite often near here and the houses are all rundown but the place is really really cheap but you go just a few blocks and things get very hipster and young very like modern I guess. So while the city has plenty of ghettos or quote on quote 'bad places' another good chunk of it is getting gentrified.

Then of course you got your standard sections of the city like Swissvale (which isn't to far from downtown Pittsburgh) a lot of families with children and pets live there (where I grew up), then there are more ethnic parts of the city like Squriell Hill has always had a large Jewish population, awesome place.

    So yeah.

There is a lot of stuff in this city and around it, always something different in every part of it and a lot of nice places to visit.

Kennywood, Zoo, Science Center, Sportsworks, a lot of parks (most of all Crazy Park aka the bluseside playground with an awesome big blue slide and THE BEST sledding hill EVER! It makes winter sooooo fun)

Now I want to move there even more! :p Thank you!

I've been doing a lot of research on it, and I'm aware Pittsburghese exists, though obviously not to the full extent. lol I can guarantee it's going to take a long time to get used to it.

I'm excited about the sports teams! I'm from St. Louis which is also a heavy sports city. I don't think I'll ever fully give up my love for the Cardinals, but I can pretend. ;) I'm more than happy to love the Steelers though (is it true they pronounce it Stillers? lol) because I have no other football team to route for.

I've also read about the more dangerous neighborhoods, but every city has them so I'm not too turned off by it.

The zoo is what I'm really looking forward to. We don't have one in Richmond (or at least not a good one), while St. Louis had a great one, so I'm really excited to have a few places to go to that I enjoy again. I didn't know there was a Science Center though! St. Louis had one too that I frequented so that'll be cool. :D

I don't know when we're going to move there. We're actually in the process of buying a house in Richmond right now. But it's only because we can't afford to move right now and renting is a waste of money. My husband keeps promising that in two years, we'll go, but I'm hoping to convince him to move sooner. ;)

That all sounds so great, and you just made me happy again. :) Thank you so much.

:D Well I'm happy I could cheer you up! Ya shouldn't be sad your soon to be B-Day!

As for the stillers some do and some don't just like some of us talk more with the Pittsburgh accent and some of us don't. My sister hates the accent, I talk with a mix and my brother is full on with it but yeah some say Stillers and some Steelers.

    I say Steelers.

    But yeah!

    The zoo is great!

Very very big place for field trips (I'm sure most zoos are) but we used to go there allll the time for field trips and just for family stuff. A lot of stories from there, the monkey's there sometimes jump at the windows like just fly at them and there just a rowdy bunch as monkeys are, zoo is an awesome place!

My uncle once dropped a piece a candy on accident down into the Tiger area and the tiger spend like five minutes sucking on it.

And I still have a chicken hat my uncle bought for me there.

Also another zoo like place is the aviary, I've only been there once and that was in like ....hmm middle school I think? Long time ago but it is filled with very very pretty and exotic birds.

But yep! We have the Carnegie science center, that and the Sportsworks are right near each other. (I think they are actually part of another). I haven't been to either in a year or two but they have all sorts of great stuff virtual rollercoaster, rock climbing in the Sportsworks and science center is big on robotics and all sorts of stuff.

    Then there are the museums!

There are sooooooo many here (well more then one would expect lol)

Museum of Andy Warhol, Natural history, art, Heinz history center and I know I'm laying it on pretty thick but boy I kinda forgot how much stuff to do there actually was in this town :p lived here forever.

Here is a photo from Natural history museum

Hey, I don't mind you laying it on thick. :p I like hearing from the perspective of locals. The internet can only do so much, you know? I really appreciate all the information. :) The more you share, the more confident I am that that's where I want to live. It's everything I've been looking for in a city without all the things I'm trying to avoid. So really, I truly appreciate it. :)

I sent her an email shortly after she ditched me, and I haven't received a response. I guess maybe she's just one of those people that don't care about ignoring others or blowing them off last minute. In a way, I guess it's better this happened now (when I didn't have anything invested into a relationship) versus later, when it would've hurt my feelings more.

You live and you learn, I guess. :)

I'm at home, flitting between the forum and watching Only Fools and Horses on TV.

I wouldn't be out these days if you paid me - never was one for all that bollocks anyway, and I certainly don't plan to change at my stage in life.
