The Tarnished City (Discussion)

To be fair... I thought it was a much needed characterization of Kent, and an explanation of his abilities before he gets into any fighting. Dart also gets a little bit of explanation... Also, the reason why Marcus hates magic and believes it to be wrong is hinted at. So... yay character development.

 

I don't have a problem with Kent's cyborg body. But then again, Merrique ain't got no powers right now, so she wouldn't care either way. It's not like she was gonna throw curses at anyone in their group anyway, unless they threatened her life or someone she cared about's life.

Also, @halisme, I thought Merrique was the one having visions? When you said she traded power for knowledge? Or is everyone having visions now?

 

To put it simply, there are different faction within the city, some nice, others not. They might be honest with you, they might not. Merrique's vision, while clouded with symbolism, is unbiased. Marcus's is being shown something that someone or something wants him to see, for their own purpose.

 

Okay, that makes sense.

Alright... so Jade and Mixine will have their little secret conversation, and then they'll go to sleep... and then we'll begin the new day. How does that sound? Who gets up really early?

 

Depends, I'm in the UK , so earlier than most on here I guess.

 

I was talking about characters, actually. Which of our characters would get up the earliest. Marcus and co are used to getting up early, but Marcus is a teenager and likes sleeping, and they're used to sleeping in shifts, so they have the luxury of sleeping in more than others. Meanwhile, the more solitary characters might get up earlier.

 

Well, mixine and jade wont stay up all night. somebody will take the next shift. But I guess that unless something happens while they watch a single post could cover it

 

I have no plans for the night, so they'll be fine. I'm interested to see what happens during the day. Marcus has his goal, and there's still the Eyrie on the far side that I mention in the description. Before people ask, Marius's quarter is pretty much hidden behind the cathedral, just to give an idea of the scale of it.

 

So we're still waiting for Jade and Mixine to go to sleep??? Lol, jk.

 

Eh... probably put way too much philosophy in my last post. This is expected with her occupation. It is more then a natural aversion/morality issue about killing that Mixine has. It is not happy idealism either. Mixine has had to endure watching people die and then had to bury them. The funeral service brings the family and the resulting misery shown is what really impacted her. Without a family or anyone that needs her, Mixine rather die so that another family, spouse or child will not have to go endure that suffering.

Mixine already is at her lowest and most desperate point in her life - she is not suicidal, but has no will to defend herself. Normally, she would not sleep around strangers and would break away to hide. Though it is not trust in Jade that changed her mind, it is really the fact she will stake her life on it to not be alone. An easy choice when your entire existence is suffering.

(Also, for the morality bit it is not Hobbes or Kant. Not going to break anyone's mind on purpose here. Referencing the mere logic of it would also be grossly improper for anyone IC. Heh, do not get me started on Arkwright either.)

 

Too quiet. Is there a holiday or something I missed?

 

Well, Christmas is coming up. Alternately a lot of jobs get busy at the end of the month so that might have been a possibility.

 

I promise I'll put up a post by the end of today, @halisme is correct, my job is really hectic right now with the holidays and everything.

Well... a lot happened. In order for Marcus to develop at all, he needs to converse with the other sorcerers and sorceresses there, so its important that he react to everything. I would have liked for him to have conversed a little with Vetiver before everything got going, and maybe a bit with Merrique, but everything moved so fast. So he'll do his own thing for a bit, trying to learn more about whatever the heck happened to him that last night, and trying to find out more about magic in general. He has a completely understandable hatred for any kind of magic, and it will take a lot for that to be undermined even a bit.

 

Merrique's the sweetest person ever, I'm sure he'll notice her attitude and it'll change his mind a little.

 

Mixine's danger alarm is going off... Also, Vetiver just committed another crime in Mixine's eyes. Ha.

Confused as to the layout of the city...
From where their encampment was, near the gates...

Straight forward is cathedral.
Left is apparently a forest, even though before it was said that East was the graveyard and West was the forest.
Right has the statue of the woman-child pair, and the previous battle, along with presumably the graveyard that holds the man who has the Ring on his finger.
North of the cathedral is uncharted territory.

Could you clarify this for me?

 

The description of the forest and the 'statue' was all part of mosaic. Hope that clears it up a bit.
East is the Saint's Grave, Relatus's quarter, west is the Ashen Forest, Tyniva's quarter, straight on is the central cathedral, and beyond that Marius's quarter.

The courtyard area that the Mixine is currently in is on the way to the cathedral.
