I'd find it be everyone's best interest to take a chill pill about politics. :)

Of course I can't force you all to or well I could technically but that's never been style, so not gonna start now :p

Look I think debates are great and we can learn a lot from each other but I've found it takes a strong will of sorts to be open and all while also defending your point. I'm not taking sides of course and am not smart enough to.

But I would hope that all this debating about politics about this election hasn't done to much damage in terms of the relationships formed on the site. I know this is the internet soooooo that's a bit cheesy to say. But it is quite sad to see such good people be so coy, rude and snide to one another which we all can be.

It comes with this territory because that's what belief can do to you.

It's wonderful everyone is so passionate about important issues (we need that) but we also I think have a lesson to learn in being more respectful to one another before any true progress is made whether it be a forum on the web or a kids at school or even a nations in some regards. It is also sometimes important to remember that sometimes going back and forth will never change anyone.

In fact it can make things worse if its been going on to long.

It is sometimes best to simply talk to people you disagree with as just regular people instead of trying to counter every point and just absorb what they have to say. I'm not saying all views should be confronted with this type of mentality on every occasion (There will be times you need be tough) but after watching you all for so many months debate this election......

It is starting to feel like circles as it is observed from the outside perspective. I'm sure it can feel like that to you all as well sometimes. So please maybe its best to just relax about it for now or if not please just remember regardless of who wins we all can still make a difference as a community and individuals :)

    Even if takes awhile :p

I agree with @Kingtype , let's keep politics out of this thread, shall we? Just take it to PMs for now, if you must.

    Thank you!

But its nothing impressive....what I said or anything.

We should hold politicians/goverment and corporations accountable of course but it is easy to forget that they are normal people (behind all that money and power-they are still human). In a lot of ways they could be any of us, right? I'm gonna be honest....I'm sure some of us would end up corrupt ourselves.

I wouldn't trust myself to always be the GOOD with so much power lol

Power is not an easy thing to manage nor are the choices that come with it. I imagine it takes a toll on the human heart in many not so nice ways.

That's why its fun to write about! :p

With that said best we should focus this passion into writing because regardless of the election and our next four years-eight years we've got a whole new batch of young writers incoming from it! :D So we all better make sure we are on board for that :D

That is so true Kingtype. I wonder if I could resist becoming corrupt if I took money from all those rich people. When the whole world is busy trying to deal with their own life, how realistic is it to expect voters to comb over someone's entire record for that possibility, just because they do take big donor money? I'd rather place my bets on the person who never took that money in the first place.

You guys, Radiohead is playing in Austin this year. Tickets go on sale at 10 am, sure to be sold out by tomorrow. I can justify the expense because, well ... it's Radiohead and they're about to drop yet another mind blowing record. BUT. I shouldn't spend the money because I have a lot I'm going to be forced to spend money on in the coming months.

    HALP.

@No-Name Slob : Pay someone to smuggle you in. :p

If I were the President of the United States, I would...

    - Improve US infrastructures.

    - Improve our mental and physical healthcare.

    - Work closely with our allies, but give them space if they would rather me not butt in. Work on alternate fuel resources other than oil.
    * I might have some people forge an Excalibur copy to give to the British monarchy.

    - Increase minimum wage and order that men and women both get paid equally.

    - Ensure education is available for everyone.

    - Join forums -- letting people know who I really was -- and take notes on whatever political opinions they have. I'd have to connect with the larger people, y'know.

VOTE LINK THE WRITER. PRESIDENT 2050!!

    :p

At any rate, I just realized that if you bind yourself too closely to a story idea that just doesn't work, it can risk grinding everything to a halt. Sometimes you have to be brave and know what ideas need to be discarded and experiment with something new.

Well, it depends on what the other things are, doesn't it? It sounds like this is an unnecessary indulgence that will get in the way of more useful things. But I don't know. I'd like to know more.

This is why people need to be vocal and pay attention. The only people who deserve corruption are those who excuse it. You guys need to expand your minds and read about science and game theory, not just watch Care Bears. Corruption is BAD, end of story, it's not something you excuse. You don't tell an alcoholic his addiction is OK, do you?

Well, long story short, a couple of weeks ago a police officer pulled me over because my husband didn't pay a parking ticket like he was supposed to. So they thought that I was him. Upon realizing that I wasn't him, the cop expressed his disappointment that he wouldn't be making an arrest, lost himself in thought for a moment, glanced over at his backup, and chose to ask me to get out of the car anyway. Then he spent a good while chatting with me, and asked me to take a field sobriety test, and I complied happily. Because if you aren't breaking the law, you have no reason to be worried, right? Well, not if you have an anxiety disorder and underlying test anxiety, and not if a police officer has already gone through the trouble of requesting backup for a planned arrest. So naturally, my brain convinced me that this cop is going to arrest me no matter what, and began to have a panic attack. And instead of arresting my husband like he planned, he decided to arrest me for a DWI. Something I'd never do.

So now I'm fighting a wrongful arrest, and I have to pay a lot of money to a really good lawyer.

Yeah, it is super shitty. And I've become so much more aware of the fact that if this happened to me, I'm positive it happens all the time to people much less fortunate than me who simply can't hire a good lawyer. It's an unbelievable stretch for me, but it doesn't mean that my kids will go without groceries like I'm sure it does for many families. The problem is that Texas hosts the MADD headquarters, and the reason our economy is so great is not because of our governor, but it's because of situations like this where people are forced to pay an amount of money that could literally bankrupt families to the state. And if you're a minority, there's little hope in convincing a jury or a judge that your arrest was unwarranted. I'm lucky to be a young, white woman in a state where you're guilty until proven innocent.

And I really fucking hate that.

Similar thing happened to a guy I know, though in his case he took a prescribed medication from his psychiatrist. He realized he was reacting poorly to it, and since he happened to be driving he pulled over. Cop thought it was suspicious he was sitting there, and ultimately arrested him for DWI. Tests confirmed he had no alcohol in his system. He ended up letting a PD handle it, and pleaded to some very reduced charge with SIS, but had he paid a lawyer it probably could have gone away entirely.

This cop wanted me to take a breathalyzer, but I remembered that even if your stone sober you should refuse it because they can be administered incorrectly, and if you've recently brushed your teeth, chewed gum, etc. it will detect the alcohol from that (and even if it doesn't, they can change the charge to a DUI). So I refused, expecting he'd get a warrant for my blood draw which is what they always do if they think they have a case against you. He didn't even bother, presumably because when it came back clean, he'd have to let me go. So the only evidence they have against me is dash cam video of me having a panic attack in the middle of a field test and trying desperately not to have tunnel vision and follow directions properly. They don't even have a case for speeding, swerving, failing to signal, or any suspicious activity at all. Haven't seen the footage yet, so I've no idea how well I did. We shall see.

That really sucks - I'm sorry to hear it. Is there any penalty in TX for refusing the test? In some States, if you fail to consent for at least one test (blood, alcohol, urine), there's an administrative suspension put on your license.
