I'm gearing up to get editing and rewriting/revising starting tomorrow ( July 1st). I'm already in a cabin. I completed a novel using November 2015 and April 2016(Nano and Camp Nano) as incentive. I know where I need to rewrite chapters and I definitely need to go back into this novel ( mystery) and tie down some loose threads. I really try to not do any writing except for Nano months as it gives me time away from the project so I can see it with fresh eyes. Good luck to everyone and have a blast in July!

I hope everyone's first day of Camp went well! I managed to write almost 3x my daily word count target goal which was amazing considering how slow my motivation was yesterday. How did you all get on?

I hope you all have an awesome second day of Camp :)

I'm on Camp nanowrimo but I haven't done much with it except keep track of my word count considering my cabinmates are pretty silent

I feel your pain ... I've had distant cabin members before and I have found that it can really disrupt my motivation :( to be honest, it's one of the reasons I created my own cabin this year :) ... if you ever feel like moving to a different cabin I still have one space left in mine (just putting the offer out there in case you want to use it). I hope the rest of Camp goes well for you!

The last cabin I was wasn't very active. This one - 20 posts to read through this morning! Wow! That's more than the last cabin had for the entire month!

Didn't get any writing done yesterday (a book was released that I just HAD to read!), but I have plans for today.

I also like that you're keeping us motivated (or at least me :)) by posting in this thread. Go Camp NaNo participants, no matter what cabin you're in!

I'm glad you are having a better cabin experience this time! I find that the cabin makes a lot of difference when it comes to motivation. Books are awesome but definitely distracting, haha, I have had to put my to-be-read pile on hold while I work on my Camp project this month. Thank you :) It makes me happy to know that I am helping to keep someone motivated. Good luck with your project!

The weekend is almost over! I hope you all had an awesome and highly motivated writing weekend (I know mine's been patchy, haha) but tomorrow is the start of a new week filled with work, school, assignments, deadlines, and other annoying day-to-day distractions. What tricks and techniques will you be employing to keep yourselves motivated?

Will you be writing during your commute? or when you get home from work? Will you get up earlier than normal? or stay up later?

I will be starting training, and eventually shifts, for my new job at Waterstones next week and I am worried about the effect it will have on my ability to write. I am hoping that once I get used to the rhythm of the job, I will be able to organise time to write a lot easier but that could take a while :/

Just noticed this thread today. Not sure if I'll be able to hit the word count, but I'll try anyway.

I'm going to write a cyberpunk-ish story set in near-future America. The technology won't be that much more advanced than in modern times, just more computerized and even harder to escape. The advancement most relevant to the plot is an autism treatment that converts its patients to mechanistic, detail-obsessed thinkers with savant talents and extremely acute senses—in essence, what happens in some extremely fortunate real-life cases, or at least the TV version. It cures their problems with cognitive control and frees their obsessive interests from the associated anxiety, granting superior concentration abilities, but it makes them mildly sociopathic in the process. The treatment's creator considers this a positive effect, as it blunts the self-hatred they feel from the remaining tics and social problems, and she was perceived as cold and uncaring for so long that she decided to embrace it.

The villain is a natural, genius female savant who entered college before most people finish tenth grade. She has a memory for facts and arithmetic comparable to the Rain Man, and her other symptoms are minor enough that her coworkers essentially idolize them, but her talents are extremely rare even among the most high-functioning patients, and that knowledge has given her a severe case of imposter syndrome. She employs the secondary protagonist and many others who received the treatment at a corporation, reacting with great hostility if they attempt to leave her control, and she treats any autistics who could or would not accept it horribly, including her own brother. The perspective character does not share the diagnosis, because it's too easy for me to over-identify with, but she manages to piss the villain off almost as badly.

It's more than likely going to require a rewrite, considering how little I know about corporate culture, but that's what the rest of my time is for. The main thing is to finish something longer than 6,000 words.

@A.S.Ford is your cabin full now?

@Adenosine Triphosphate Wow, this sounds like a very interesting piece! Camp is always worth giving it a go even if it is just to see how many words you could write in a month regardless of the word count goal :) I still have one space left in my cabin so, if you would like it, then create a project on the Camp NaNo website - http://campnanowrimo.org/ - and let me know what your user name is :)

    How's Camp going for everyone?

So far, I have 5,363 words (out of my 20,000 goal) under my belt - this doesn't include my word count from today which I have yet to finish and add to my current total word count. I started my new job at Waterstones today and I was worried that it might distract me from my writing too much but I have discovered that it hasn't affected it all ... in fact, I think it might have helped to be have been surrounded by books and people who love books all day, haha. I managed to get some writing done this morning while I was waiting for my shift to start and now that I am home (and showered) I can't wait to get stuck into another writing session :)

I just discovered the whole NaNoWriMo thing, and I discovered Camp and would LOOOVEE to join your cabin, if you have any spaces available! I want to get ready for final editing of my fantasy adventure novel come November (or sooner), and I feel like a cabin might keep me even more motivated than I already am (which is extremely motivated). I am well into the work, but I still have a ways to go, including much of the editing. Let me know if there is any room left in your cabin.. my username is Aaron J Kaplan. Happy writing to you and all the other participants who may read this message!

Haha, I love the enthusiasm that exudes from this post. You seem to be in luck as Camp is still letting me add people to the cabin :) I have just sent you an invite!

I haven't been able to write for the last 4 days due to work and seeing family so I am hoping to catch up this week :)

I'm happy to announce that I reached my goal of 20,000 words today!
I'm considering going for another 10,000, but we shall see what tomorrow brings.

Well done, Nidhogg! That's awesome news :) You still have just over two weeks until the end of the month so why not give an extra 10,000 words a go? With the rate you are working at I'm sure you could beat it ... though, if you are worried, you could always go for 5,000 more words instead.

3rd week of Camp NaNo is upon us ... I hope everyone else's projects are going better than mine!

For any participants struggling alongside me: don't give up, we can do this :)

I stumbled upon this thread and then realized that I completely forgot about Camp NaNoWriMo this month. Oh well.

So the last week of Camp is upon us :( I hope everyone has had an amazing month so far! I prefer the Camps to the main NaNo event so am gutted I will have to wait another nine months for the next one but I am sure work and my Masters degree will keep me busy until then, haha.

Just finished up tonight for July's camp. I finished 500 words above 30k. This is the most I think I have ever put towards one work in progress ever. 5 chapters about 60 pages total. It was a little hard at the end, but I think I did a nice job. I set my goal at 30k because I didn't want to put total garbage out there. I averaged probably around three hours per day. I had a blast and hope to keep up a pace of 15k to 20k more in the coming months. I have about 120 pages now of my work in progress. It is the most I have ever had on any story I have ever written. Drinking a little Jack Daniels right now in celebration. I would like to thank everyone on this forum, my sister (who is my biggest critic and editor) told me she has seen a drastic change in the quality of my writing. I owe most of it to all the great members here on this forum. Thanks also to everyone who was in our cabin, I think I will give November a shot if I can outline more of my story by then.

Camp has now officially ended! I hope everyone had a great and fruitful time during this month even if you didn't reach your word count. I probably won't be participating in the November challenge due to starting my Masters degree at the end of next month (September) and I will most likely be drowning in homework by then. However, I will probably take part in the April and July 2017 Camps. I hope you all enjoy the rest of the summer and I wish good luck to anyone who is thinking of taking on the November NaNo. It's been great writing with you all this month :)

I'm thinking of participating this year. Never have before, because I didn't have any novel ideas that I hadn't already started, and I kept telling myself that November is positively the worst month for a commitment like that.

But I'm hoping to get my first novel self-published by the end of this month (assuming my beta readers get back to me in time) and I've learned it's a good idea to have two or more books up on Amazon at a time. I've got an idea for a sequel . . . and if I can do my research and outlining between now and November 1, NaNoWriMo might be a good time for me to get a good start on it.

Wasn't sure about the daily 1,667-word goal, however. Yesterday afternoon I tested myself. I had a piece of prose I had to generate, so I sat down and discovered that I can crank out more than 2,000 words in an hour and a half. That's if I do nothing but write, and if I know what I need to say ahead of time.

So it's possible. If I can get past a crucial hitch in my prospective plot, I may do it.
