    Literary Useless Fact:
In the first edition of Catch-22, the chaplain's name is R.O. Shipman. In current editions of Catch-22, the chaplain's name is also R.O. Shipman. In the second edition, and only the second edition, his name is A.T. Tappmann.

(The library copy I first read was a second edition. When I bought my own copy, it was a later edition. It didn't half make me jump that just when serial killer Dr Harold Shipman was all over the news in the UK the name of one of the main characters in one of my favourite books had suddenly changed to Shipman. There's a really rubbish horror story in there somewhere.)

Mosquitoes are the only organism responsible for the deaths of more humans than humans themselves.

If moving in a straight line, the ISS would've covered a little over 2.3 billion miles since being inhabited by humans back in 2000.

Since Australia has compulsory voting, those who wish to protest voting sometimes purposely mark their ballot in such a way so that the ballot is invalidated. This kind of vote is called a spoilt vote.

The lead singer in Sigur Rós, once forgot the lyrics while performing with the band in France. But his creative nature helped him to find out his next steps. He just kept on singing in Icelandic "Oh, shit, I forgot the lyrics, but that's is OK because I'm in France where no one understands me" :)

The average person walks 110,000 miles in their life time. If we combine the two, that means we get about 16.98 miles per gallon of sweat.

A guitar with a 24 fret neck has the full scale, but many manufacturers only make 21 fret neck. This is primarily done by American made guitars.

Necromancy does not mean "animating the dead," it means prophesying the future based on communicating with dead spirits.

"Animating the dead" should be called something else. Necrothurgy, perhaps?

technically mosquitoes hardly kill anyone - its the malaria protozoans that they spread that are responsible for all those deaths.

Both the anus and the rectum are part of the large intestine, however they are not the same in of itself. The rectum sits above the anus and is the last stage of the digestive process. The anus is what you want in the toilet if you get what I'm saying.

This has been a medical--if not gross and useless--fact courtesy me. You are welcome.

    Just right of center.

Same is true of guns vs. shooters. I read somewhere that 50% of all the people who have ever died, died of malaria.

    This is almost to Neptune.

New useless fact: Superman's flight powers are due to the fact that him 'leaping tall building in a single bound' looked silly in animated form in 1940's cartoon by Fleischer Studios. Studio asked if they can make him fly instead, Action Comics agreed and wrote that into comics.
