    Specific 'Stabilized' Synonym

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Kerilum, Oct 21, 2016.

    [RESOLVED]

I'm looking for a specific synonym of 'stabilized.'

I'm speaking of my character who's attempting to maintain the same daily/weekly routine only because he is inept to adaption.

    Here's my sentence:
"He did believe in God, practiced daily readings of scriptures, and attended weekend communes at the chapel. However, it was simply due to his interest in maintaining a _____ routine/life" (going to use whatever noun that fits with the word)

I was thinking of something that had the prefix of 'homeo,' but I was unsure.
Thanks in advance for attempting if you are unable to get the word, and I'll reply if you do get it right.

    ritualistic

My doctor explained to me recently that might be why I keep bad habits. I'm not necessarily addicted to the actual agent. I'm addicted to the ritual. I think this is probably true for people who live alone, more than anything.

Yes! Sometimes I just forget the easiest words stupidly and can't find them. Thank you.

It's an interesting word, but a rarely used one. What's up with 'steady' ? or 'balanced' ?

Quite the substantial difference between being 'steady' or 'balanced' and always unchanging.

Steady on; I thought you were after a synonym for stabilised? Surely something's stability is dependent on external influences? Also, not sure homeostasis means 'always unchanging' does it?

    Hi,

Actually homeostasis in biology means balanced. The word the OP wants I think is unchanging. But I don't think it fits with the sentence. The previous sentence suggests the OP is looking for "pious" or something of that nature. Alternatively he could be looking for something like modest or calm - as in not upsetting the apple cart.

    Cheers, Greg.
