Alec: Pretty much anything where I have to read the people around me to figure out when to start changing my plays. I've won a ton of money playing poker, and the friends I ran D&D for in high school always told me how much they loved how flexible my games were and how much freedom they had for deciding where the story went.

Charlie: Apps. I spend a lot more of my down time playing on my phone than with other people.

Amy: Sid Meier's Civilization III. I generally prefer playing against other people, but even solo I tend to be unusually good at marauding across the map and leaving desolation in my wake.

Jason: Resource-allocation games, especially when I can make spreadsheets about how well I'm doing.

When did your MC first learn that they were different from "normal" people in some way?

I don't want to spam the thread, but I'm also having a lot of fun with these so. . .

Gonna try dialogue answer this time. Should be interesting.

Fredrick: "Oh, um, when I first realized I was different? Probably would be when I was really young, let's see if I can remember. . . Um, I think I may have been six, maybe seven? I don't really remember much, just that I was with my friends just the feeling of being surprised that I was the only one there that couldn't swim. Don't even remember how the subject came up. I don't think I learned till a few years after that either."

Jason: "When I first realized I was unique you mean? I've always known, ha! Nah, I was just joking. Hm, I think I was a bit younger than Fredrick. I'd made a friend and asked him when he was leaving. He'd looked at me funny and said 'I live here'. I'd had no idea what he meant! See, me and my dad were travelers, never did stay in one town for too long. I didn't realize until then that that wasn't the 'normal' way people lived. Wouldn't trade it for 'normal' though. I mean, most boys my age can't say they've been to another country, never mind several! Plus I speak several languages and-"

Sharon: "Shut up and let me have my turn. Idiot. First time I realized I was different, hm, I guess it was more of a slow realization. See, you may not have noticed, but I happen to be a mermaid. When I was little- so little I don't remember anything before- I got tangled up in some fisherman's nets. Haven't seen another mermaid since. So it took me a while, but eventually I got from 'everyone else is a freak' to 'I'm a freak'."

Bonus, because this one is hilarious.

Fredrick: "What is this? A ticket? You mean to tell me your government fines us common folk just for placing our wagons somewhere they don't like?!"
    Jason: "Fredrick?"
Fredrick: "What kind of government is this?! What kind of morons decided to do this? What kind of morons let them?"
Jason: "Fredrick, please stop yelling at the nice, friendly guardsman, please."
Fredrick: "I refuse to accept this! This is an unjust-"
Jason: "We're going to jail aren't we."
Fredrick: "-system and I refuse to participate!"
Jason: "Please, Fredrick, I parked the wagon, I'll take the ticket."
Fredrick: "NO you will not, Jason! No one is paying this ticket!"
Jason: "Please don't tear up the ticket right in front of the guardsman. Like your doing. Right now."
Sharon: "Want me to drown him for you?"
    Jason: "NO!"

Then Fredrick tries to punch the officer and ends up hurting his back so they all go to jail.

Corlixia: I do not wish to speak much of my past, that is not who I want to be. That is not who I am anymore.
I can still hear their pleas, and cries of pain and mercy. I choose to fight my nature and my old ways. There
is no hell great enough to match the level of suffering I have caused. The many lives, families I have destroyed
with these hands. And for what? To save my own skin from being the one to end up on the dissection table.
I do not seek forgiveness for the pain I have inflicted, the fear of my touch gripping an entire galaxy. I would
much rather get the truth over a strong drink than under my perverted instrumentation. Though I will employ
such methods for a good cause. In short if you take and hurt my friends or comrades in arms, I will find you
and I will make you suffer that which is a thousand fold worse than any torture in any version of hell.

What is something that burdens your MC's mind, or those they surround themselves with?

Lu: I could have saved them- well, I did, it's just that I... I remember feeling good about it. I remember seeing all that blood and being fine about it. Better, even. And that feels so horrible.

What is the most frequent nightmare your MC has?

Not that he would ever tell anyone (he'd probably say something flippant about watching one of the many low budget scary movies he's been in, and having a nightmare about that) but he has this recurring dream that his feet are leaking.

He's standing barefoot, on the pavement outside his apartment - right on those broken flagstones the council never get around to fixing - in a small pool of thick black ooze. The pool feels to be alive but he can't see it moving - growing or shrinking - and so he can't tell whether the ooze is leaking out of his feet or leaking in through them. He wants to get away from the ooze, which he's farily sure must be poisonous, but he's afraid that if he steps out of the pool he'll find that the ooze is coming from him. He'd rather stay where he is and not have to know for sure which way it's going.

EDIT: wow. I'd thought I'd piled on the angst in my character's teenage lives. Never realized how much of it had spilled into their childhoods :(

Alec: Not always the best, the years Dad was stationed overseas I never knew if he'd be able to call or not, but the years he was home or able to call were amazing, and even the other times, I still loved spending time with the friends and family who could show up.

Charlie: I was the fourth of six kids, and all I ever wanted was time to be alone. Never got a lot.

Amy: Kind of annoying whenever I would schedule something with my friends and then Mom and Dad shut it down, but I learned to treasure the times I got lucky and my friends and I could make our own plan.

Jason: Really hard after Amy ran away, I always lived in fear of the police telling me that I had become an only child, but she'd always thrown amazing parties before that. When I had friends from Math Club who could come over, she always set up the basement for us to do Math Olympiads until Mom and Dad made us do something else, and when it was just the two of us, we'd spend hours on Civilization III together.

What is your MC's favorite mythical creature and why?

Were you thinking of me when you picked that one? :p

Jason: "Mermaids! Cause I'm courting one!"

Sharon: "Come over here and let me show you how 'mythical' I am. You're supposed to pick something like ghosts or something. Which, incidentally, are my favorite. Cause their dead humans. It's great. "

Fredrick: "Mine? Um, I don't know. It's been a while since I really thought about fairytales. I always had liked the one about the knight who saved the kingdom from the evil wizard- but I wouldn't say wizards were my favorite. They probably don't count anyway, right? Um, okay, favorite mythical creature . . . I don't think I have one."

    EDIT: (Forgot question AH!)

3 MCs From my WIP: Drink a strong cup of coffee/tea. Load up after breakfast, and slaughter anything or anyone bearing the Confederation Insignia.
Defend the civilian populace. Feed and offer medical support to those who need it.

Your MC is the most feared being in the galaxy. Do they enjoy being as such, or do they try to change their status? Why/what are
they known for that makes them feared through out the galaxy for?

Blade : I don't know about the galaxy but I'm certainly feared beyond the wall, which is good those bastard clansmen and mercenaries need to know not to fuck with the westmen. As my name suggests my reputation is built on being a bit tasty with edged weapons , although I'll also kill with a rifle, pistol, grenade or my bare hands if necessary

and based on the above - what is your MCs favourite weapon and why ?

Jonquil: Mine's got to be Georgia, sweet little girl, hands warmer than the fucking sun. When she slams them down on some sucker's face... you should hear them scream for their ma! Or maybe the duck-foot when I'm surrounded by vamps? Both are pretty funny.

Wow, this took me a while. Am I caught up now?

Fast-forwarding a few years past the book I'm working on right now:

    Alec:
Ever since finding out that magic is real, I have been practicing flame-throwing, super speed, flying, wind control, ice, lightning, breathing underwater, and my two best friends can buff me with their strength, healing, and invulnerability when we're working together. I wish it was easier to make new friends when you're an enforcer, but I wouldn't trade anything for having this much power to take care of the friends I already have.

Charlie: I'm a crime boss who can take a rocket launcher to the face and still be able to shoot you. Or open up the ground under your feet and bury you alive. Or have my two best friends burn you alive. People tend to respect a girl's personal space when she can do that.

Amy: People know that I'd been the Richmond Ripper even before mastering super-strength, fire-bending, earth-bending, metal-bending, invulnerability ... What Alec said. I love being able to take care of the friends I already have, but I also wish it was easier to make new ones.

Alec: Two trench knives that I call Max and Brooke I've been treating with warding potions to make up for my personal power's Glass Cannon / Fragile Speedster lack of a good defense.

    Charlie: Anything that works.

Amy: Two Desert Eagles named Paul and Karla, Remington Versa Max named Marion, and an AR15 named Bathory that I've spent the last few years enchanting with ungodly accuracy and stopping power, plus two morningstars named Harley and Ivy for when I'm looking at a fight that'll take too long for me to bring enough ammunition.

    [flashing back to the present]

    Alec:
Parkour accident, I'd rather not go into a lot of detail about the whys and wherefores.

Charlie: Business rival's probably trying to scare me.

Amy: One of my Ripper projects probably fought back and we went over the edge. Not how I wanted him to go, getting knocked out from behind is a lot more peaceful than having to fall that far.

What are your MC's 2 least-similar favorite songs?

Blade : Man , you name your weapons ? *falls about laughing*

as to songs , theres not been much music made since the Wave , but I like the old rock standards - AC/DC Back in Black , Dirty Deeds , Shoot to Kill etc

Chris : Oh ffs who got him talking about music again, all the twingy twanging guitar bolocks does my head in , the last decent music made before the Wave was rap , eminem, 50, tupac lil demon .. those guys

Keri : yeah but those guys are so disrespectful to women, I dunno what you see in them ... I'm not a ho, or a beatch and i'll cut anyone who says different... The last decent music was country and blues , seasick steve , dixy chicks , like that...

Last book your MC read ? (assuming they can read)

Elsa: "Ooh, comic books! Like... what was the last one? I think it was some issue on Green Lantern.. or the Simpsons.. or was it Superman? Just can't remember. I only read things with pictures. Who needs words? A picture tells a thousand stories."

    Tom: "You can't read words?"

I once superimposed a giant, digital dog penis on an enemy position because the damn JTAC couldn't get the grid right. Lines for the brothel is always goofy looking; hard-ass Sergeant's preparing all their bows and avatar's for anonymous rendezvous.

But the oddest thing I really saw, no question about it, was an enemy soldier just walking out of a building right in the middle of a firefight to ask us to please stop for a moment. No fear, no animosity, no awkwardness. He just walked right out, as heat and rounds flew, and talked to our fire team leader casually, like the war was all just a joke to him.

    Unbelievable.

Alec: How much I need to be around people. I would sacrifice my nerdiness, ruthlessness, rules-orientedness, ability to improvise cleverly, anything if it would mean staying somebody who loves doing things with other people.

    Charlie: Level-headedness in a crisis.

Amy: Independence. I need to be around other people right now, but I would rather need to live in an igloo in the wilderness than need anybody else to tell me what to do with my life.

Jason: My unwillingness to do anything evil to anybody else. No amount of cruelty or violence, however small, could ever be worth holding on to any superficial detail like my wanting to do math.

What book/show/movie did your MC think they would love, but were disappointed by in some way?

Alec: The movie Eragon. The book was a fantastic introduction to the world, the story had a cool CSI: Medieval plotline in the middle, and the elf chick was super-hot in her Gothic leather, but the movie was just a remake of Star Wars with the elf changed to a blonde with her stereotypical "good girl" light-colored leather. Surprised filmmakers are even allowed to do remakes unless they're forced to add something new that was missing in the original, but all this movie did was take away.

Charlie: Godfather III. Michael Corleone use to be a badass, what the fuck happened?

Amy: Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring. The movies were fantastic, but I couldn't make myself finish the mess of disjointed nonsense in the first book. If other people liked it, then good for them, but I like a story where there's an actual story, not just a sequence of random encounters. The movies had this thing called "plot progression," everything that happened happened because of something that happened first, everything that happened made something else happen next... You know? Writing.

Jason: Thomas Harris's Hannibal. Hannibal Lector having an origin story, Clarice Starling falling in love with him, him turning out to be capable of making himself hallucinate and teaching her to do the same... I don't normally like saying this, but the movie was so much better.

If your MC were convinced to play a tabletop RPG, what kind of character would s/he want to create? How would your MC's game-character be similar to their "real life" self and how would their game-character be different?

They would create a monk-type person, as the MC would want to do their best to involve themselves in everything that has been going on (a difference) but to remain virtuous and studious (a similarity).

If your MC could start all over again, would they make any different choices?

Fredrick: "Well, there were some stupid stunts I pulled as a kid, but if I didn't do those I'd probably do something worse. There is one thing I would change though, I'd duck."

Sharon: "Choices? What choices? You try being stuck in a coffin-sized fish tank, see what kind of choices you can make. So yeah, I'd do my best to make sure I never get put in this stupid thing."

Jason: "Start all over? Haha, wow, that's um, that's a big thing to be able to do. I mean I could do a lot of things different. Maybe- maybe convince my dad we should go another direction. Avoid those . . . people altogether. But, but then I wouldn't meet Sharon and- and we wouldn't rescue her but if she's also able to go back then she wouldn't need rescuing? And- and so I could do that right? I could save my dad and- and- that would be okay, right? But- this is- this isn't real, this is hypothetical. Great, you're putting too much though into this, Jason. Um, sorry, excuse me, I- I need to go."

Marckus: Being raised as an instrument of war, I have but the toys of war. And I play well on the theater and stage, though it is one without grace, or style.

Graxis: Growing up on my parents farm I had a small hand carved sword, from the hardwood of a Ornrous Tree branch.

Corlixia: What is a childhood? I have no memory of such a time in my life. Does the instruments of immolation and pain count as toys?

Alec: I would try to stay with the Imperium for as long as possible to keep the universe from being destroyed. If Charlie or Amy go against the Imperium and I'm ordered to kill them, then I'll try to fake their deaths and only desert the Imperium outright as a last resort, but I have to put them first.

Charlie: I'd look into the rumors that the Tau are open to alliances with people of other species.

Amy: BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

Jason: I'd probably get killed pretty quickly by at least one of the dystopias or another.

Corlixia: Marckus is my first. Apologies, the Ober-Commander, my CO to my CO if you will. Though he has only recently
found out about my feelings toward him. I do not know why, when I thought that I might lose him on Mars from being
wounded while hunting Mercenaries. Still unsure how to describe my feelings, even holding his heavily scarred body to
mine and kissing him. It just seemed right that I should. Our relation is more unconventional than what I assume is normal.
Then again neither of us is considered normal in our own ways.

Fredrick: "The idea of Death the reaper is a myth. How am I supposed to fill in for something that doesn't exist? Dress up in a hooded cloak and wave around a scythe? I've got better things to do with my time."

Jason: "Would there be some training involved? Because I really have no idea how to go about reaping souls. And then afterwards, then what? Am I supposed to guide them to their destination? Would I have a map? How would I know which place they're supposed to end up in? And, you know, let's not forget, would I be actually killing them or would they already be dead? I don't want to kill people. Or send them to, you know, the bad place. Can't Death find someone else to fill in?"

Sharon: "I'd do it. I think I'd do pretty great. Unless. . . it was another mermaid. I. . . I wouldn't want the first of my kind I see since I was little to be dead. "
