    Hi!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by HobGoblin, Dec 9, 2016.

Hi! Like many others who have joined, I'm hoping to improve as a writer. YA fiction has always held a special place in my heart, specifically in the genres of high fantasy and modern supernatural/fantasy (not werewolves and vampires). Currently I have a little seed of an idea for a story in each of those genres, but I have a ton of questions about the writing process overall! I really look forward to meeting other writers and indulging in their works. :^)

The way I wrote my book, though I am new too, is I basically wrote little biographies for each of my characters. I really dove into who they are, why they operate the way they do, and what their motivations, fears, likes, are. Doing this exercise, though tedious, really helped bring the characters and story to life, because I never really got stuck on where the story should go (I knew what this character would do based on their background).

Maybe try doing that and see where it takes you. You might see a story developing in your mind as you refine who your characters are.
