    What compels you to write?
Myself? Nothing really compels me, I need to force myself...

    Why do you write?
Because I want (or feel that I have) to do something with all the ideas that come to my head. I enjoy coming up with ideas but for me writing them down is difficult most of the time.

What makes you write what you write?
My imagination and all the things that I've experienced in my life.

What made you decide you liked to write?
I used to love writing when I was a child but for some reason stopped for a long time, thinking it was impossible for me to write something good or it was something that I shouldn't really be doing (waste of time, etc). Now that I started writing again, I don't always like to write but I love to see how the ideas that are born in my head develop into something else.

    What Do You Write?
Right now I'm writing a novel but sometimes I also write short stories, poems, etc.

    What compells you to write?

Love, I love to write and make stories.
    Why do you write?
    Because I love to write.
What makes you write what you write?
Isn't this basically 3 times the same question in different wording? A love for writing makes me write and whatever comes to mind is what ends up on paper.
What Made you decide you liked to write?
Ever since I was just a little girl of 3 years old I have been making up worlds and characters and creating amazing adventures. I never stopped loving this and once I learned to read and write this love only grew.
    What Do You Write?
    Anything and everything.

Hi new here and saw this thread so thought it a good place to start :)

    1. To prove some thing to my self not to any one else. and becasue I want to see if I can share my ideas with others.
    2. Because I have ideas for stories that people who do write and write well think are good, that I like and i see no reason why I cant put them to paper any more
    3. A head full of ideas and stories, some of which I want to put down in full and see them some where other than in my head. not in snipits but in a single piece of work. A thousand ideas both fiction and non fiction, stories and facts are in there some where.
    4. I hate writing! and i mean that in all seriousness, I have a major problem with my language skills, I am diagnosed as severely dyslexia, most 10 year olds have far better spelling and grammar than me. My entire school life i was told I was a failer in English and up until very recently I was far to self conscious about my language skills to even consider putting pen to paper to write more than a few words (I struggle to write a shopping lsit with 5 items on it). I like to form ideas in my head, I have done it since i was a little child (40 now) I have always wanted to tell them, only now do I feel like maybe I can actually do it.
    5. well apart from documentation at work. I want to wright some sci-fiction and some stories based around psychology and counseling. At the moment I have three books in my head a two part Sci-fi series and one based around a social worker trying to balance the issues he faces in his counseling work, with his own issues in his personal life and past. I think most of what I would write is fiction of some kind.

so far I am about 1/5 of the way through the first books fist draft. The story is there, the path is almost laid and now joining it together.

Smiles I will take issue with this, I agree that it is important to check your work, but not every one can "catch" their mistakes even when they are told they are there. I often wonder how people would take it if every time they made a mistake in there reasoning some one called them out in the same way. I was blessed with a mind that can reason logic with out effort, but struggles with language.

Some one gifted with the ability in English pulling up people who are not on there spelling and saying its not a good sign for a writer, is like Stephen hawking pulling up a physics grad student on there lack of understanding of the fundamentally theorist of quantum physics when they are looking to get in to liquid flow-dynamics.

Suggesting that your spelling has to be perfect to be any type of writer is like saying your fingering needs to be perfect to be any type of violinist. It you are playing for the London symphony orchestra may be that should be your goal. If you just enjoy it as a past time, may be the act of making the music is more important than how perfect it is.

I write because I have lots of stories to tell. I just need to put them on paper.

If not, I'd go crazy. lol

It's 1am. That means I am mildly melancholy, and very philosophical. A perfect time to answer questions like this, because while the answers may not be accurate, they will most likely be entertaining and wordy!

    What compells you to write?
What compells a blade of grass to be green? I have no handle on where motivation comes from, nor where it goes. For me, it is simply here when it is here, and gone when it is gone. When it is gone, there seems to be nothing I can do to bring it back. When it is here, it is as an avalanche barreling down the mountain. I can neither be stopped, or ignored.

    Why do you write?
Because I must write. When motivation and inspiration collide, the words must be recorded. I do not know if they are merely for me to re-read in the future, or if they will wind up being shared with others. In that moment, it doesn't really matter. They simply must be written.

What makes you write what you write?
The above answer works here as well, but if I were to go more in depth into the details of what I write, such as the genre of writing, or the characters, etc. I write fantasy/sci-fi because it allows me the most freedom to express the ideas that burn so intensely in my mind.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
Writing is the only way I can tell the stories. No amount of technology can reproduce the incredible worlds that the human mind creates when reading. I guide the reader along a path, but they experience the world I guide them through. Each reader having a slightly different experience.

    What Do You Write?
I do not write. When inspiration and motivation hit, I set aside the cares of this world. I describe the bird on cherry branch, twittering among the blossoms, looking for an insect to eat. I coalesce the rain pouring out of a dark sky, drenching the shivering body of a young girl weeping beside a freshly covered grave. I design the hydrogen fusion based thrusters that move a ship full of slumbering humans to Mars. I build the colossal gates that connect entire star systems with a web of wormholes that let people travel instantly between them. I ignite 300billion stars and pull them into a pinwheel of light that empires struggle to control the smallest pieces of. I walk among billions of galaxies, spread out across a universe that bears my signature. I do not write. I create. What do I create? Anything I feel like creating. :)

    What compells you to write?
Its one of my passions and I want to improve.

    Why do you write?
I've always loved being able to escape from reality for a moment and dive into a totally different world. Doesn't have to be sci-fi or fantasy (personally I'm not a big fan of either), but it can just be another place in a different time. I also want to inspire others or try to snap people out of their bad mood by saying "Hey, its not all that bad. Look at all this good stuff over here."

What makes you write what you write?
I always write something for a reason. I try to always impress on the reader a new idea. Not like "Hillary > Trump" or something like that, but more of something like "Yeah, that person is really annoying, but they're also a really skilled fighter on the battlefield. Personality doesn't equal skill."

What Made you decide you liked to write?
During my freshman year of highschool, I took a class on dramatic writing where we all wrote screenplays. I wrote roughly a 60 page screenplay, and so far its been one of the best things I've ever written. Ever since then I've been very interested in writing.

    What Do You Write?
Typically I write stories about young people going through difficult times, and someone else helping that person. Seems simplistic, but usually there's more to it. Here and again I write other stories, like one where someone is being followed by the physical embodiment of death (still a WIP), or maybe a futuristic dystopia... but an actually good one (Sorry but a lot of mainstream dystopian novels aren't good, looking at you Hunger Games).

I like to think I know why I write. I do so much of it, there has to be a reason. However, being asked straight up like this, and having a momentary fit of honesty - I can't really say why I do it. All I know is I feel like I'm doing what I should be doing when I'm doing it. When I'm not doing it I'm thinking about what I've just written, or what I will write next, and above all I'm agonizing over just how I might be able to do it better, and better, and better....

I guess it's kind of a shock. I don't know why. I just do it.

Blimey lady, you haven't been kidnapped have you? In fear of another 'hobbling' ? * sends the Sheriff to Plovdiv, Bulgaria *

@Denegroth mesuspects you're channelling a muse (sure there's another thread on here about that)

Why do I write? To leave an echo of me (published one day poss (self promotion's shocking mind), but something for the descendants to read for sure (appreciation comes much more easily when clogs and mortal coil have been popped and shuffled).

What compels you to write? Nostalgia.
Why do you write? The belief that writing what i'm about to write will allow me to feel the way I feel again. Or never again.
What makes you write what you write? An understanding that if I do this right now it will last forever. Or at least my life-time. Which is forever.
What Made you decide you liked to write? I did it and it felt good. And it still does.
What Do You Write? A daily journal.

To me it's like meditation. My dad's a writer so since I was very young we always had a typewriter or conputer with a word processor on it. (I mean literally just a word processor, this is DOS days.). The house was full of books and I wasn't allowed to watch tv by myself yet so I read every book that's I could understand at my age. When I was done I'd make up my own stories so it only came natural to write them down. Now I do it as a way to keep my mind centered, I mostly do it for the same reason I paint or play guitar: for fun.

When I think back, I can't remember a time when I had the ability to write and did not choose to. For me, it is a way to filter out my very active imagination and to create something. Weaving a story is one of my favorite activities. To write something. To create something. To read it back after and think "You know. this isn't half bad." It provides me with a sense of satisfaction. It nourishes me.

Writing currently is more of an outlet, especially when you have a pre-constructed universe where every detail you've made is some kind of representation of my own rather divided conscience. A good contrast between virtues and sins as well as giving my demons a physical form which I can then pour my insecurities and fantasies into.

I highly recommend doing something like this whilst writing, I have seen that when I treat my creations as an extension of certain aspects of my conscience and feelings they begin to take on a distinct form. It also helps with authenticity, especially when you try to capture things quite alien or different from cliche structures.

    What compells you to write?
My need to see the big picture of existence, I think. How my memories, ideas, and thoughts, all work together as one unit. Ultimately, this compelling manifests in either metaphors through fiction, or more concrete imagery through non-fiction.

    Why do you write?
Because after I'm done writing a huge chunk of writing, I experience emotion more than before. I'm a very logical processor, meaning my emotions process reality in language. Once I put everything I'm processing into language form, I can FEEL emotions more as they are, rather than just being able to describe them in my head.

What makes you write what you write?
Definitely my upbringing. I always end up writing things to encourage myself or other people. In my earliest drafts I end up "preaching" in a way. I was raised in a very conservative household where the only things I read and heard were commands to do things for an ultimate good. This still influences my writing. I hate it and I love it.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
A long time ago I started journaling to cope with my intense emotional issues. Ever since then, I've liked writing.

    What Do You Write?
A lot of non-fiction. Dialogues with myself. Rants. I'm currently working on a book called Why I failed for 20 years, and 16 Habits that are Making Me Suceed: Notes to Myself.

    What compells you to write?
A need to explore my subconscious and explore experiences I will never have myself.

    Why do you write?
Because it makes me happy. It takes me out of my every day life. I have a good life and I am very happy, but it's nice to escape the drudgery of the every day.

What makes you write what you write?

An idea, a word, a song, anything can inspire a few words (or many)

What Made you decide you liked to write?
Because I have always loved reading and wanted to create my own stories.

    What Do You Write?
I write a lot about love in all it forms. Friendships, romance, family. I love exploring people's emotions and the relationships between them.

What compells you to write? I love everything that has to do with art - writing is no exception.
Why do you write? Probably because from time to time I get some idea for a story and I can't sit still until I write it down.
What makes you write what you write?
Mostly I'm inspired by my life, or people around me, I write about them with a little bit more drama to it.
What Made you decide you liked to write? I guess I always liked it. Even I was a child I kept a journal with horror stories ( really don't remember why as I child I wrote horror theme ).
What Do You Write? Love stories, crime, erotica ( short stories ), essays.

    What compels you to write?
I get these thought vomits. I don't know how else to describe them. A string of words will appear before my eyes and I have to write them down before they are lost forever. It's like the feeling you get when you are under water for a very long time and your body is screaming for you to breathe.

    Why do you write?
I write because I have to. It's compulsive for me. Sometimes I'll have words bouncing around my head for hours. If I don't write them down I can't concentrate.

What makes you write what you write?
I write what I write because I like to read the type of things that I like to write. Fantasy/ Fiction. I like adventure. I like being submerged in it.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
I have always liked to write. I think I knew when I was in creative writing class. The teacher gave us 5 minutes to write something that conveyed an emotion. She used my example for future classes and I got a lot of compliments. I didn't care about the compliments so much. What mattered to me was that the people who heard my 5 minute story felt what I felt when I was writing it. That's what made me decide for sure.

    What Do You Write?
    Fiction.

I write because I believe my writings are the one special thing I can give to others. There are other things I like as much as or even better than writing but I'm not particularly good at them. And while there are a million better writers out there, writing is such a personal thing that I think there isn't anyone else who has to say what I have to say.
