Let's hope for the best and fear for the worst, I guess. But hey, at least you've made the decision now about your Master's. Good luck! :)

*Wrey adopts a lotus position and whispers arcane words that are inaudible and deafening at the same time. A pulse of actinic light bursts forth from his now hovering body (fingers gesturing the appropriate conductive mudras) rippling outwards in a wave of healing for all my friends who are ailing*

With that sorted: Gods, but I'm still stuck in my story. Stuck-stuck-stuckitty-stuck. I don't know Brenn at all. I've been a bad friends an not listened. I'm writing a scene last night and I'm 400 words in and I feel my brain do its mule trick and dig in its heels. o_O

Well if it's any comfort, ours is certainly under threat here in the UK ...and in Scotland as well, if it doesn't vote for independence this time around. We'll be following the Trump model of health care soon. Effing Brexit....!!!!!

You and I are very different. We already knew that, of course, but I set my alarm for midnight to watch the coverage. Inauguration is scheduled for 0200 local time, and I've got to work in the morning, so it'll be naptime after the festivities

Wait, where do you live? In my time the event will happen circa 10:30-ish.

@jannert - If Scotland doesn't get itself independent then by god I'll go over there and MAKE it independent! C'mon, Scots!

I am NEVER going to try and examine a political debate from the other side ever again! Why? Because I tried that in a Donald Trump discussion on this forum and had greatly upset a very close friend of mine here. She probably now thinks I'm a stereotypical Trump supporter.

See, this is what happens when you try and discuss politics among friends. It does nothing but severe the relationship. Forever. :(

Try to tone down the self indulgence just a little. There are people out there that can't afford to feed their families or get them healthcare.

Not your fault if someone else misunderstood. You can explain, in order to rectify the misunderstanding, and if that doesn't solve it then they want to misunderstand.

That's why I leave the Debate Room to itself. I've put my head in there a couple of times and discovered pages-long battles between members whose names I don't recognize, pages that took less than an hour to fill.

I'll stick to Useless Facts, Mutilated Quotes and the like for my non-writing contribution to this forum.

I subscribe to a stupid magazine.

Last night I emailed that stupid magazine. I typed 'Dear magazine, I have moved from my old address 123 to new address abc...'

    And they replied

'Dear subscriber, we require your old and new address to change the details.'

I hate everything about today. [point being it's 'symptomatic,' I think the word is...the fukkin English language]

Suppose it reminds me of the man at the petrol station. I watched from my pump number four, he strode from pump three towards the electronic glass doors. Yet the doors remained shut. Other customers milled inside the shop section, but he could not gain access. He bounced his keys in his hand, 'I have no presence,' he said, dejected, and slunked back defeated, sat in his motor car. He was a hero that day.

Probably had sold his soul; that's one of the problems Bart Simpson experienced when Milhouse bought his.

Given she said she was thinking about suicide on the other thread, I'd guess that this issue and/or apology for it isn't really top of her 'pressing issues' pile right now.

I'm sorry to sound harsh but you want to apologise to make yourself feel better - a really good friend wouldn't bother her with this trivial stuff when she clearly has larger fish to fry.

As 123etc said try to keep a sense of proportion on the self indulgent worry - you've had a minor disagreement on an internet forum, not killed her first born in order to wear its skin at a fancy dress ball.

If you apologize, can I suggest apologizing for what you actually said, rather than for painting it in a more favourable light and then apologizing for that?

If you call people with a certain world view "spehshul snowflakes" and make fun of them... and your friend has that world view? Then I think you need to apologize for making fun of your friend, not for trying to "examine a political debate from the other side".

There's nothing wrong with trying to understand where other people are coming from. But that's not all you did in that thread, is it?

ETA: Let me anticipate--this does not mean you're a horrible person. This isn't something you need to abase yourself over or hate yourself for. But if you're going to go to the trouble of trying to see the world through the eyes of a Trump supporter, then you can also try to see the world through the eyes of a friend you insulted. And if you try to do that I think you'll find your apology is more sincere and more effective.

    Well shit.

I did PM an apology to her saying I wasn't trying to insult her and that we'd get through the Trump years somehow. And that she was pretty awesome.

... How about this, I keep my dumb mouth shut and quit digging this hole any deeper.

I've been gone for nearly a week, I needed a break from the internet, and life as general. I still don't feel right though.

The longer I live, the more I think that's just part of the human condition.

Don't lose hope, there are other parts of the human condition to offset it. We have hope, perseverance, determination, and all kind of tools to struggle with the ailment that is life. That is until we inevitably die.

ETA: Oh yeah, and we have alcohol, my self-medication of choice.
