You could always invent two names that you think could be interpreted as either male or female. For me, that would be the easiest solution.
If not, I would choose Pat and Sam, which, in my opinion, sound very ambiguous.
Good luck!

Most ambiguous together: Jordan and Reilly/Riley, I'd say.![]()

Can you use last names or titles?
Robinson reached for the glass. Across the table, the Doctor cooly scanned the crowd and leaned forward, motioning for Robinson to do the same with a crooked finger. Robinson could smell the tea on the Doctor's breath.
A thought-provoking post on finding time to write. http://whatever.scalzi.com/2010/09/1...-time-or-dont/
Show, don't tell. Don't tell me that you want to be a writer. Show me -- write!
Good point, Heinlein. My main character's last name is Clark, and I call her by last name when I refer to her in the story, and she's a woman.

not sure it would work to be honest because it is one partner telling his dad about the relationship not working well. Maybe I should leave them as Nate and Socrates most people think one or other of them is a girl unless they have read the whole book![]()
How about Christian? I have a male character named Christian, but I know 2 girls and one boy named that in real life, and it seems to work for either gender pretty well.
Danny/Dani would also work, or Riley, as that's commonly used by both males and females. Same with names like Jordan or Jamie.

Remember to keep the names short, it helps with ambiguity.![]()

I need names I think to do it. I want to write it as a piece of flash fiction for a competition. I'll change it a lot but the same idea of a Dad talking to his child. I like the idea of people not knowing the sex of the couple. I may reveal it at the end like call Chris and Sam - Christopher and Samuel.
Maybe Sam and Nat to keep the same intial and length as Soc. Yup I do believe we have it Sam and Nat.
