What is the partially digested food called that a mother bird give their baby birds? I have searched several ways and have not found it. Was thinking of regurgitant, but is there a name for the gob of food given?
It depends what the bird is. Birds without a crop just feed their babies worms etc. Birds with a crop partly digest seed into a kind of soup and feed their babies that--but I'm afraid I don't know a proper name for it.
MAybe I could look up the type of bird that does it. Do you know which species does this? Actually just knowing crop has given me more help.
Several sources refer it as Crop content or some birds make crop milk. Unfortunately, I am using this for a dragon(no crop) that chews up food and bones for the hatchling to eat. So Crop content would not work. This would only be the oral part of digestion, mastication and saliva. The crushed bone provides calcium, the saliva provides temporarily immunities. Any suggestions on a what to call the blob of chewed food?
You could make up a feature of the dragon's digestion, even give him a crop, since such a creature doesn't really exist. Or perhaps you'd like to look into how lizards feed their young? Or aren't they more or less left to fend for themselves? What about crocodiles?
