    iPhone update fiasco

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by FoxyMomma, Jul 11, 2008.

I just spent the last 5 hours waiting for my husbands iPhone to finish it's update. The new 3G phone was introduced today and the software got an update this morning too. With 10 million iPhone users activating and updating their phones this morning, it put a major strain on the system. Hubby was freaking out this morning when he started the update and it wiped the phone, technically making it a $200 brick. It was in emergency mode and we couldn't access any of his data. He went off to work and I was left here trying to get it fixed.

I called Apple tech support and was given the message that they aren't answering phone calls and to try back later. Next to the Apple forum, (which was down for the first hour) and met a barrage of pissed off customers all in the same situation.

So, anyone else deal with this today or was it just me?

Mexico, you got a problem with that?
Well, I don't have an iPhone but I have a MacBook. A few days ago I ran into some trouble, so I went to the official web-page for help, then I called them and they said I would need to take my laptop over to them and wait three days or so to get it back.

I said "Ok, fine," and started looking on the internet to see if anyone else had a similar problem. I had my problem fixed in five minutes. *shrug*

    Cool! The Appleocalypse.
Having a lack of any hi-tech Apple technology, I am quite eager to see how this plays out. Still, my sincerest sympathies to the forumers whose lives are hindered by this.

Holy cow! Did you ever get it working again? And if you did, were you able to get the data back?

Luckily, at the beginning of the update, it backed up everything on the phone. When it finally was able to finish, it restored itself from the back up. The problem was the shear volume of people trying to update the old phones and active the new ones.

I was tempted by the iPhone. I saw it and went oooo & aaaaaa. But I resisted. It's like alien technology. When it works, it amazes. When it don't, you have to send it to the third asteroid in orbit around Mars.

The screens do turn to smudge. But it's more the unreliable nature. I've had too many simply stop working on me. Tactile buttons work so much more effectively.

I agree Banzai. Not to mention they break too easily. I get frustrated.

Apparently they did not send enough for all the Canadians who wanted to buy one.
I do not have to worry as cell phone use around here is for NW Ontario. It won't work any place else.
So we don't even have one.
They are getting a lot of bad PR in Canada though.

And i bet it's not covered by the warranty. Screens never are, and their usually the first thing to break.
