    85th Poetry Contest Voting

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Torana, Jun 11, 2009.

    The
    85th
    Poetry Contest

The contest is closed, and voting shall now commence!

This week's theme was (courtesy of ): Getting Lost

Voting will end on 14th June 2009. Voting for yourself is entirely at your own disgression. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, it'll be castration (or whatever I deem the female equivilent to be). You have been warned *evil laughs, whilst sharpening a carving knife...*

Seriously folks, don't do it. There is no prize to be won here but bragging rights, making cheating an exercise in pointlessness.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting

Lacklustre Returns To The Sorbonne ~ Gannon

A sorry lament in black and white,
    a torrid duel, moreover fight
does my path each mourning cross.

    Deciphering one’s lifeblood
and reordering that which I am,
    adrift, on wholely complicit anagram.

I ride high seas of hyperbole,
hours among cruel lows of deceit,
all double meaning and hidden clue
I stop, in the calm folds of defeat.

Somewhere Here Somewhere There ~ Leaka

    Somewhere here
    almost enticed by intoxication
the world seems to stream that
    of many colors rather then
    people out and about

    Somewhere there
    almost completely intoxicated
the world is no longer reality
    and the mind's fantasies begin

    Nowhere or anywhere
    almost completely lost himself
    or herself or whatever
    Nearly complete for death

    Eternity and forever
    needles for me
    pain of a hang over
    strangers house
    strange country

    Once again here and now
    lost to the deadly hand
    of the bottle

    Names ~ daydreamer

If names can never hurt you
    why did I break?

    Pieces of me,
    littered the playground,
    crushed underfoot
    by steel-tongued boots.

    I lost myself then,
in a place too deep to find
    inside a framework
    numbed by damaged nerves.

    But the names still hurt.

    just kids. ~ tarnished

these ragged words to hollow to absorb
(your empty smile always made cry)
because behind those eyes I see nothing
no sign of life throughout these years

but i think i saw you once
holding tight in a summers moon

    i think i saw you
    behind an oversized sweater
    and a skimpy skirt
    bathed in the citys rain

    your sweet scent was everywhere
and i think i saw you once
    under the cobble bridge
but it was only a thought

    because we were getting lost
through the cracks in the cement
    and in each others dreams
    but we were only kids

    getting lost
we were so caught up in who we were
    and what we stood for

but i think I lost you along the way
cause when its perfect itll never stay
so lets build it up just to bring it down
    cause we were just kids…
getting lost in the city of dreams.

Too Deep to Back Out, Too Lost to Seek ~ wishyoucould

    A mirror. A straw.
    Depth is emptiness.
    Never quite reaching
    the place I seek.
    Because
a mirror is useless in trying to locate ones self.
    Mirrors know
    only reflections,
    hearts, minds are lost.
A straw is useless in trying to locate ones self.
    Straws are round,
    and you spin back
    back
    back
    back around to the beginning,
    never quite picking up
    what you missed
    the first time.
I lost myself in the mirror, the straw.
tried to find myself in the mirror, the straw.
I can’t pick up all the pieces.
Because they, like the crank, just fell off the table
and spilled all over my floor. Empty. Lost.

    Hope ~ Lyssa

In a world full of light
    There is darkness thats hiding,
    Perfect black holes
Full of lost hope and dreams,
    Broken promises and lies,
    They are tear-stained, forgotten.
I have discovered this and wondered
    Into it.
But knowing this now, I try hard to get out.
But the darkness holds me, not letting
    Me leave.
It buries me deeper, doesn't let me cry
    Tears.
I'm getting lost in it's center, the
    Lights there no more.
I'm searching and calling for you to come
    Save me,
    But silence beats around me,
    Silencing my cries
So I sink with these hopeless
    Wishes and dreams,
    Hanging to hope-
The one thing I brought with me.

I Love Getting Lost With You ~ TheHedgehog

This city’s been too dull for me,
    but then you suddenly show.
Now it’s a lot more colorful,
so I think we should go.

All we need is a fast car
    for our merry getaway.
And we’ll speed by the passerby
    as we drive far away.

In veins of avenues we escape,
    halogen lights above our wake.
Industrial forests on a concrete scape
drown us in a chromatic lake.

Feel the city all around you,
and the sights and the sounds,
    they’re swirling all around you,
‘cause your mind’s out of bounds.

    And it just won’t stop,
that psychedelic rush that’s in my head.
    And this city’s still raining
    yellow, green, blue and red.

I love getting lost with you
‘cause it’s the best way to find
    myself in a world
    of the grayest kind.

    Season 4!! ~ hellomoto

    I am ever so excited,
I've been waiting for a year,
    This season could be good,
But it might not I have to fear,

    The plot is convoluted,
    Who's alive or ,
    I'll have to listen carefully,
    To everything that's said,

    And abuse the timeshift,
    Of my DVD player,
    As to scrutinise each picture,
    That's a clue, a soothsayer,

I'll be heading for the shops,
And no matter what the cost,
    I'm happy to announce,
    That I'll be getting Lost.

(For all who don't know, this is in acknowledgement of the T.V. series 'Lost'.)

    Untalented hikers ~ Ragnar

I got lost from my track,
    there is no turning back.
    The forest is dense as
    the previous night black.

There is no way to tell.
    To escape from it's spell.
    The forest it seems like,
    a horrendous hell.

    The track must be found,
    Etched into the ground.
    Like a truly flat snake,
    but to the earth bound.

    Indeed lost we are,
    Without a lame car.
    On roads we well know,
    that do not go far.

    Technology made,
    is a two edged blade.
    Old knowledge is lost,
    All too much I'm afraid.

    My Composure ~ rlroberts7

My composure helps me let live
But if I lost it on top of a bridge,
    And regained it underneath
Would the water be too cold?
    10, 20, or 30 below?
The pressure asks me to buckle,
No! as I grin and relieve a small chuckle
    I will not go under
    A step backwards isn’t me
    Who am I?
    Everything I want to be
    So my composure is steady
For the world I am ready…

Lost in Your Eyes ~ MysteriousWhisper

    In your eyes
I see the raging, blue sea
that is coming to take me
    like a tsunami
As I see you looking at me
    your eyes glittering with longing
    to take me somewhere
    simply by holding me close
In your eyes there is saddness that
    wants to be relieved
one look from your watery eyes
    and my emotions are changed
I want to hold you as well
I want to get lost in you
    In your shimmering eyes
I want us to come together
like the blue sea clashing with the
gleaming grains of sand on the beach
In your eyes I see what is perfect beauty

    Lost ~ ChaseRoberts

I once felt my hand slip from yours
I was lost in a sea of legs and bags
I could not feel you near

Now as I stand tall above your shoulders
    You've gone from me
I've seen you for who you really are
And the bitter angry woman trapped inside
You took the very part of me
    That was me.

Now it's not me that is despairing
Now it's not me that is lost
    The tables have turned
    You reach for my hand
But it is no longer there

    Losing Pain ~ HKB

The streetlights with their aching pupils, soft
and blurry halos, ranging colors peach
to apricot glow brighter than white moon,
a powdery, weak lune, forgiving crescent.
On sparkling blacktop citrine spotlights line
the residential streets. I walk their route
that winds forever. Walk the shrub-lined paths
of jaundiced silver dust and muted greens
as restless as an herbivorous shark.
Behind a drape of flickering elm leaves
an orange moon watches me searching, hopeless,
for somewhere to set the pain down or let
it frantically run circles inside me 'til it
exhausts itself, collapses... the wind's current
lifting it up, up and away from me.

    Lost? ~ Hsnodgrass

Where the machinery and motivational advertisements meet,
By the street, next to a sign on the sidewalk, a drunk does preach,
His breath reeks of desperation, a destitute, institutionalized patient,
Who escaped the medication for self-deprecating alleviation,
From problems his degrading mental state creates.

I wander by wondering if my spare change will help,
Or if my charity will further his thirst for compounding the problem,
Ten cents dropped in a cup in exchange for his two,
On matters of life, love, salvation, spirituality, and divine truth,
I walk away into a fading day looking for a recognizable street name.

I can't shake the image from my mind of the man on the corner,
With his quest, a life purpose, played out to passing guests,
He will probably get ran off into oblivion soon,
By a police officer tired of the complaints from pedestrians,
While I find my way back to my parent's house for a warm dinner.

I wonder if he has a place to stay or just roughs it,
I wonder if a shelter lets him bathe and take a s***,
I wonder if he knows the city or if he appreciates the pity,
Given to him by the passers-by who think he is an eyesore,
I wonder if he has lost his way or if preaching on a corner is what his God made him for.
