    The Quest.

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Wreybies, Jul 17, 2009.

Goodness knows that the Fantasy genre would be but a pale ghost of itself if there were no such thing as The Quest.

    It come in many guises:

    Quest For Treasure
    Quest For Glory
Quest to Save Good From Evil
Quest To Gain The Maiden’s Love

    There was even....

    Quest For Fire!

Danger lurks behind ever boulder. Creatures strange and nightmarish call one’s valour and capabilities to the test. Certain doom and despair lies waiting within every cave and within the shadows of ancient and sinister forests.

And yet heros line up for the challenge.

So, with all of that said, you have just finished a round of pipe smoking with the strange motley crew of sundry little people, elves, magi, and whatever else you please.

They have invited you, of course, on a quest!

    Do you go?

What kind of quest would bring you to say yes? What would be good enough to face all of that peril and take you from your cozy hole in the hill?

Quest To Gain The Maiden’s Love: I want some more information... is she a writer, or can she at least accept my ambition? Would I like her personality, and could she appreciate my humor? Would she *beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep*? (lol) ;)

I think that's all up for you to determine as conditions that you'd require to say "yes" to going in the first place.

Ah. I'd have to go for the maiden quest then.

    Now that's a worthy quest.

    No.

I want the hot, sweaty crowds of people crushing in on me as we all reach in vain for the stage and scream the lyrics until we are all hoarse and our ears are ringing. I want to feel the heat of the stage lights. I want to be able to see the dirt under Mike Patton's fingernails.

" Quest to stop wannabe artists with digital camera taking rubbish photo's of themselves half naked covered in blood, wearing too much makeup in attempt to imitate fashion, and for gods sake stop putting on facepaints to look like Heath ledger's version of the Joker. Pick up a pen and pencil and take art seriously for once"

I guess if you were to shorten that, it'd be -

    "The quest to filter Deviantart.com"

Seriously, looking at art there is no fun anymore. It's all these wannabe teenagers trying to be abstract with their fake psycho-blood girl photo's and poor imitations of the joker. It seems like EVERY gallery has a picture of the 'artist' smeered in joker makeup trying to look heartless in the mirror.

    BLAGH.

Quest to save good from evil for me.

I was discussing something like this the other day. A few friends and myself asked each other what would make each person go to war and compel them to put their life on the line. For me, it's pretty much nothing short of an attempt to save the world. I would, given what I know now, have signed up in 1939, but wouldn't have in 1914 (stupid, pointless war).

Would I go to war for the love of a woman? No. If a woman can't love you for what you are without you needing to act all macho, she's not worth it. This isn't the middle ages, it's the twenty-first century.

I don't know if I would have the guts to go on a quest if it was for money or glory or something like that, but put Joel or one of my family members at risk and I'll be there in a heartbeat. Powerful motivation, that.
