Having read @Tenderiser's post about the new competition format, and how GMT applies, how about a short story based on 'Time Zones'?

Three Russians go into a hotel room with three cases of vodka. Once they've drunk all the vodka, one of them leaves. Winner is the one to work out who it was.

My friend just sent me a message and my first thought was, "Great writing prompt!" That's the kind of friend I am.

You wake up one morning, walk into the bathroom, look in the mirror... and your reflection isn't there.

How about "Write a story based on a song of your choice". Would be interesting to see a take on Enter Sandman or Imagine. :)

Prompts with the word trigger (as in the newest Bond novel is called -Trigger Mortis- and my brain thinks that's oh-so-clever and now that word is stuck on repeat):

Sneezing triggered my time traveling, and I was allergic to cats. . .

His name was a trigger and she was aimed at me. . .

We hit the guardrail and triggered a rock slide just in time. . .

I only recently heard tell of the crazy wonderfulness that is google deep dream. I can only offer a layman's explanation of what it does, and you probably don't care anyway, so I won't bother... instead I'll just point you to this site that features images generated using deep dream. (Some are NSFW.)

They're mostly pretty trippy and seem like great prompts for more out-there stories. I can't find my absolute favourite anymore, but these are some pretty good ones:

Love the 'song' and 'no reflection' options (@Jarvis XIX, @OurJud).

Great to have these so far in advance. Thanks, @Tenderiser.

You probably have enough ideas here to last for a while, but in case you need one more: https://www.yahoo.com/news/3-billion-old-lost-continent-124000554.html

If you don't feel like clicking through, the headline (which is all you need, really) is "3-billion-year-old Lost Continent Lurking Under African Island".
