A sentence that starts with the same word that ended the previous sentense

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by peachalulu, Jun 26, 2012.

Don't know if this question goes in this area but I was wondering if you can have a sentense end on a word and the following sentense start with the same word? It's a noun, and I'm trying to keep the focus on that it by repeating it.

NO! It is Positively VERBOTEN! You shalt not pass GO, you shalt not collect $200.

Just pulling your leg. Of course it's okay, and sometimes is a good way to emphasize something (as you did there).

Yes it is ok. It is your stylistic choice. It is a rhetorical device called Anadiplosis-- which is takeing the last word in one sentence and repeating it to start the next sentence. It looks good, and it can really ad emphasis :)

I like the repeat, it adds emphasis.

If you are using this sentence in a poem you can do a line break:

    Sinewy arms reached out,
It had arms , not tentacles, and
Hands! that shot out and grabbed his arm...

That is just what i came up with :) But if it prose It is just fine the way it is ;)
