Do you like this idea for a story? Would it be better as a manga or a novel?

Discussion in 'Genre Discussions' started by Jarklor, May 1, 2013.

Jarklor, half dragon and half hunan, witnessed the terrors of dystopia. The dystopia is a nation located on the planet Gliese 581G. The nation desires perfection. The government believes that the act of execution is necessary for all of those who are different based on religion, race, sexual orientation, and other things. If you are over the specified weight, your finished. Jarklor believes that this is wrong.

He starts as a little boy locked inson, waiting for his execution due to his part dragon qualities. Jarklor tries to make friends with the prison guards. He tries to because he wants to feel like
Later, he finds a way to escape. (I'm still thinking of how though.) Jarklor soon gets lost in a forest surrounded only by trees. But all of a sudden, there in the darkness, appears an anthro dragon. The dragon takes him back to his village and gifts him with having people who love him. A family.

Throughout the story, Jarklor meets other people (both humans and anthro dragons) who have a dream. A dream to take revenge on the dystopian tyrant whom threatens the very existence of life?

    Can Jarklor save humanity?

It's an interesting ideas but definitely for a manga.

It can be a novel but this seems more like a manga plot, IMO.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think 123456789 will steal my idea? Or is he just kidding?

    123456789 was kidding.

I think it would work better as a novel.

Are you the guy with the space dragons?
It is a good idea for a manga or a graphic novel but it doesn't transfer well into text.

Btw, 123456789 won't steal anything, he was just joking.

Except me. I disagree with the concept of finding things in the forest.....

Gosh, you guys can sometimes be so mean...

Anyways, sounds like something that'd work better for a manga. The story comes off rather visual, so pictures would definitely benefit it.

A story concept means nothing. What matters is how you write it: the characterization, the flow, the imagery, all of it.

There's absolutely no benefit in asking what other people think of the concept! They'll either say,"Sounds great," or, "it sounds like a ripoff of..."

If the idea stirs you, write it. Then ask people what they think of the final story. After they tell you what they don't like about it, revise it, usually several times, until you're happy with it or until you throw up your hands and say the hell with it.
