Just curious to see if anyone had any experience writing a relationship between characters with a notable age difference or whether anyone knows of any work where this is explored, preferably older man and younger woman.
What kind of an age spread did you have in mind? 50-40? 60-30? 70-20? And is there a historical era involved? The one that jumps immediately to mind is the relationship with Merlin and Nimue as written by Mary Stewart in The Hollow Hills and The Last Enchantment. Merlin is a lot older than Nimue ...the exact age isn't specified. But she is written as young, while he is a late-middle aged man. It's a very touching and believable relationship. That's an excellent trilogy by the way. The starter book is The Crystal Cave. It looks a bit like fantasy, and is sometimes marketed as such, but actually reads as if it's history. Mary Stewart made a lot of effort to recreate Britain in the early dark ages, when this is set. Just after the Romans left Britain for good.
25 to no older than 50. My current piece has a character interacting with a Captain and crew (space opera) a good deal younger than him.
