Alternatives to "a stranger with an axe to grind"

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Tenderiser, Feb 25, 2016.

There's another idiom in the back of my brain but I can't pull it forward. It's something with more gravity than "has an axe (ax if you like) to grind". This is a stranger that REALLY wants to harm the person.

    Helllppp?

I got it! It's "with a score to settle."

My brain does work with a bit of prodding :D

Score to settle is what popped into mind. A slightly different twist might be "payback is hell," or "sweet revenge." Another axiom to grind. :)
