    SearchForPublishers.com: Any good?

Discussion in 'Traditional Publishing' started by grnidone, Apr 21, 2009.

I found this in my gmail account as an ad:

    searchforpublishers.com

Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they for real?

if they're sending out spam, i'd consider that a major red flag...

the next one [the clincher!] is that when you fill out the form, you eventually get to this:

now, since money should be flowing to the writers and not away from them, and since they then demand your contact and personal info before they'll let you search for a 'publishing service' [a 'tell' on its own!], this puts the scam seal on this site for me, but good...

if you have any sense at all, you'll block them from your email, stat!

http://www.publishers.ca/ This is the kind of site you want if you are looking for your publishers on line. It's a simple directory that gives the kind of information you would get in the Writer's Market book, plus links to the websites.

Except that the op wasn't asking us to do his research for him. He was asking opinions on a site he found.

IMO - mammamaia's example of how to find and assess information is far more important than the actual information itself. Hence, my comment.

It was one of those advertisement links in gmail, not actually a spam mail. Yeah, if it were a spam mail I'd not even think twice.

Still. a lot of scam outfits secure a presence in the ad feeds. Even the ads that show up on this site are suspect, unfortunately (we cannot and do not make any claims as to the reliability of any of the ads sent to us by our google ad feed).

and google cannot protect you from yourself, so you must do the vetting on your own, before putting any faith [or cash] in any ad's claims...

your first line of defense is: http://www.invirtuo.cc/prededitors/
