publishing question.

Discussion in 'Traditional Publishing' started by apf42589, Jul 24, 2011.

I had my first book published by wordclay.com, does anybody think that it was a mistake?

I think self-publishing is a bad idea. After all the work of writing a book, why not go the extra mile and polish it up to be accepted by a traditional publisher. You will get paid instead of doling out an investment youi will probably never recover, and traditional publishers have the experience and contacts to really get your book to volume markets.

Self-pubishing houses and other vanity presses prey on your desperation and lack of confidence to make a profit at your expense.

yea but everyone was telling me that some publishers don't even read the books anymore since they get so many. Also, i didn't know how to even get in contact with them :\. I'll re-write it :p and send to another lol

Re-writing is probably not going to be enough - you've used up your first publishing rights for that book. I'd recommend starting something new.

I'd recommend getting an agent as well. It'll make the publishing process less painful.

I don't think self-publishing is ever a wise choice, if you haven't tried the traditional route first. Unless you really want to see your book in print this instant.

    Well, it's done now...

In general, I'm wary of self-publishing, however there are exceptions to every rule.

I'm sure you learned a lot since you wrote the book, right? So use all that and work on a new project. :)

Yes, thanks guys. It was my first book so my main objective was to learn from it like you guys said. Now I just have to write a better one :)
