I've been racking my brain trying to think of one. I have been trying to think of something different but something similar to someone that helps anyone that deals with law. Looking online just keeps offering jobs to apply as a P.I. So if anyone knows please comment with suggestions.
A PI is the only job I can think of that fills both the "for hire" and the "helps the law" description. Things having to do with the law tend to be tightly restricted to actual law enforcement, attorneys and judges because of the intricacies of due process. It's not an amateurs games.
Bonds enforcement (bounty hunters) is one possibility. An attorney could be considered to fit your definition, too. But "helps with the law" is a pretty broad concept, too. A tow truck operator who tows vehicles to an impound lot also meets both criteria, for example.
I thought of bounty hunty @Cogito but then I would feel like my story would sound kind of like the movie Domino since I also have a female protagonist who not only is she beautiful and confident but has a tough exterior. But, I wanted a little less ruggid. @Wreybries I know. I didn't want some highschool job type thing either. I guess P.I. will be. Got a headache from looking and found out that you can do embaulming actually with a highschool degree and just a few training courses with a certificate... Thought you guys should know

Well, there are also security consultants, or background checkers. Unlike a PI, they don't necessarily have to be licensed or undergo a formal apprenticeship before they can offer their services. They might not have to be bonded either.
Oh! I likes! I was looking in the repo a little deeper researching on those types of repos that do that do private property repossession like houses,furniture, etc. But my character can seem more into that. Thank you! Now research time.
What about a consultant? That might not be common, but it's believable. Sometimes the police might need outside help for something outside of their expertise.
They are often look into a person background and if they don't trust the police, the client may ask the P.I to investigative a murder)homicide, if in America).
Not sure how it works in other countries, but the private sector has the ability to hire security guards, city police, provincial police and even federal police (RCMP) for many different types of work. The OPP even has an inquiry form on their website somewhere stating this. So hiring actual police for private matters isn't completely out of the question. I guess it depends on where your story is taking place. EDIT: I'm in Ontario, Canada, forgot to mention that.
