    Ant & Dec

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Wreybies, Apr 21, 2009.

So, after seeing the video of Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent, I was asking myself, "Who are those two chaps off to the side of the stage that they keep cutting too. They're funny!"

    Ant & Dec

Being a silly yank, I had never heard of these fellahs' until I saw that video and I've spent the day today Youtubing their stuff all the way back to Byker Grove. They're adorable! I'm thinking of getting BBC America now. Are they still on the air?

Oh, no. I had a feeling we would drift onto these two. :D

Yes, these guys are still WAY on the air! They are quite brilliant, frankly.

Watch Alien Autopsy. Funny film. :p

Mmmmm... I fantasise about Dec and my senior dog is named after him.
For older people, they are the modern version of Morecambe and Wise... just as brilliant IMO.

It wasn't until I caught the movie Kinky Boots that I even knew there was an anti-north sentiment in your culture. Interesting. Sad, but interesting nonetheless.

And what's the connection between Ant & Dec and PJ & Duncan?? Every time I do a search of the former I got googlefull of the latter as well.

Edit ~ Never mind. I just found out...

    Yep, anti-northern Britain. Fails. Completely.

    No they bloody aren't!!

As a comedy writer I really hate it when people say this, I actually find it quite offensive. Ant and Dec are good. They do there job well but they have nowhere near the talent (or the experience, or the timing) that Morecambe and Wise had. People are only labelling them as such because they're a double act. It's not fair on Ant and Dec, who really should be judged on their own merits, and it's not fair on Eric and Ernie, who earned their position without being compared to older acts.

Ant & Dec remind me of SM:TV. Used to love that show as a kid. Sigh.

Speaking of SM:TV Live, one of the Ant & Dec clips I caught on Youtube was a a Friends spoof they did called Chums. I had never seen Cat Deeley outside of the realm of So You Think You Can Dance (U.S.). In the Ant & Dec skit, she was sporting rather a different accent than what we hear her use on SYTYCD...

    Which one is it, Cat?

Hmmm sounds like she has lost her Birmingham accent a bit, probably due to living in America for a while.

Ok, so after having gone to the BBC America web site and realizing that the line up they are offering to us poor saps across the pond is the most watered down yankceptable pap, and that the only two shows they are offering which I would watch (Dr. Who & Primeval) are already being aired on Sci-Fi channel, I pose the following question:

Is there a good website where I can catch episodes of actually decent shows from the UK??

Lol most of the decent shows on our television are actually American...
SM:TV was amazing, Wonky Donkey & Chums & Splattoon & Eat My Goal & Challenge Ant - it was sooo good. They don't make telly like that these days. If you like Ant & Dec's presenting, then maybes find Dermot O'Leary if you can - he's funny and funny ;)

Do you mean Challenge Anneka? When I lived in Berlin and we got the SSVC (Services Sound and Video Corporation) I was addicted to the show. Loved it!!

I was also a junkie for Eastenders, Coronation Street, and Home and Away. The only time in my life I have given in to soap operas. :D

Goodness. He is rather easy on the eye, aye?

Very easy on the eye!! Challenge Ant was part of SM:TV where they'd get some 10 yr old kid to give Ant some questions, if he got them wrong they'd all chant 'You're thick, youre thick youre thick youre thick...' & make him wear a dunce cap... loads better than Challenge Anneka lol. xx

Never saw Challenge Ant. I liked Challenge Anneka because the challenge was always something worthwhile and with a positive end outcome. Kinda' like an early version of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

A Question of Sports good too =D & Ally McCoist isnt bad looking either...but it all depends on how much about British sport you know. And The Mighty Boosh, try looking that up on YouTube, its hilarious. Well. It's like Marmite, people either love it or hate it.

And that is precisely what they are not offering on BBC America. It's all home renovation shows and some show about chefs and shows about antiques. They've already remade all those shows here in the states.

I want a good, bitingly sarcastic, scathingly dry, go and beg from your mum if you're needing an apology British comedy.:D
