George Miller did it again! After taking a look at all the previous Mad Max movies he apparently decided, "Well it looks like the car chases are the best part, lets make a movie of just that." And he did. it's a 110 minute car chase, with characters developing as they speed across futurpocolyptic desert blowing up cars with spears. They used practical effects wherever it was possible. The movie contains less than 3 minutes of CGI. This involved building 150 road worthy vehicles, and demolishing 88 of them. Because of this, the movie was shot almost completely linearly. And it pissed men's rights activists off too! No spoilers, just go see this movie.
Great, thanks for the thumbs-up! I'm going to see this on Saturday with my Dad, in 3D. It looks fantastic, and I'm a fan of Tom Hardy, so what is there to lose? I hear he's signed on for a three-move deal, too - let's hope!
If you like Mad Max movies, you will like this movie. If you don't like Mad Max movies I feel very sorry for you, maybe you can seek treatment somewhere you can learn to feel joy again. It didn't beat Pitch Perfect 2 on the opening, but world wide it's already made it's money back in the opening weekend, so it's a good sign for any producers.
To be honest they've actually gone in a more tasteful direction, but I think that's because the war boys don't wear shirts. They do that to show off their ritualistic scars, so there's that. Of course there's also these guys: So I guess the answer you're looking for is a definite yes.
Fury Road is unbelievably good on every level. It's just so fucking good. The amount of detail; the complicated, deep, interesting characters; the simple yet complex plot; the levels upon levels of detail in both the story and the visuals. The madness. The fun. The action. Oh the action! The lack of CGI and good ol' fashion stunts and carnage. And, one of the most epic, brilliantly timed and perfectly suited soundtracks I have ever, in my 30 years of being a film fanatic, heard. The tribal drums are genius. Furiosa is fantastic. Max is great. Nux is a legend and really earns his place in the movie-- such a good character. Oh boy. I will be seeing this on the big screen a few more times, I tell you that much. It's just so fucking shiny.
I haven't seen the film, but it's getting great reviews, even by people and papers you wouldn't expect to go for this kind of thing. The lack of CGI is frequently mentioned. I wonder if, like vinyl, these kinds of old-fashioned offerings will be experiencing a resurgance? I absolutely loved Mad Max, and have them all on DVD. So I reckon I'll see this one too, at some point ...although I don't enjoy the cinema experience here in Scotland very much. They turn the sound up to the point that I leave the theater deaf, and I hate that. I might just go for the DVD once it comes out.
Very little CGI? I'm already sold. But seriously, it seems like a really cool movie, so I have to definitely go check it out. The men's rights activists thing... really...? We've had female characters in action movies and on TV before (e.g. the Resident Evil movie franchise, Buffy, Dark Angel, Nikita), so why is this suddenly a problem? Oh yeah, but someone's always going to complain. Always. Can't they at least enjoy the T&A? I'm sure there's at least a little bit of that to appease MRAs. By the way, feminists all over the Western world, rejoice! If the two top movies are about women, that's really cool, isn't it? I think Pitch Perfect was about some women's a cappella group? So that's pretty nice.
Yes, and no. Vinyl has particular properties that make it shitty for sound. The fact at the "bit depth" to use a cross example, is only 68 dbl means that the "warmer" sound you're hearing on vinyl is actually just signal noise. A digital track has infinity bit depth if you want it to. With the right recording equipment you can create a 4 gig song file, and when you play it it will sound like the guy is in the same room with you. CGI on the other hand has gotten to a place where effects are almost indistinguishable from reality. The problem is this has given directors a horrible sense of hubris. Fig 1: a scene where a boy catches up to a speeding car by swinging through the jungle fucking tarzan style Fig 2: An elf defying gravity by using video game logic to leap over falling bricks You don't have to be a physicist to know that's total bullshit. It works because the director says it will, and that kind of unreality is why the reliance on CGI is increasingly being decried inside the industry. This is literally what I went to college for four years to learn how to do, and I couldn't be more happy that it's not getting done. More details here, from cracked.com on shitty CGI http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-reasons-expensive-films-end-up-with-crappy-special-effects/ Edited to add: Why don't you just do what hipsters do here at concerts, got to the store and get a pair of cans (the headphones that fit over your ears). Make sure they cover your ears completely and then take them into the movie with you. Usually the dialogue is cranked up over the volume of the special effects, so you really won't miss anything.
Ha ha! Well, have you heard the phrase "I'm too old for this shit!" ? I'm at the age where my ears are a precious commodity, as are my remaining teeth, which I don't want loosened by a soundtrack at a movie. Last movie I went to at a cinema here in Scotland was the Firefly spinoff "Serenity." Not only was it loud enough to send me away with VERY sore ears, but it was so loud the dialogue was obscured, and half the time I couldn't follow the story properly. When I got the thing on DVD ...bingo. All clear. Sitting like a cool hipster with cans on my ears just doesn't appeal, for some reason. I'll just wait for the DVD. As for vinyl? Well, I love CDs for the kinds of music I listen to these days, BUT when I bought the Who album Tommy on CD and took it home, eager to relive my youth, put it on my very upmarket CD facility on my DVD player, and put it through the stereo speakers on my very up to date TV ...I fell over laughing. Pinball Wizard. My favourite rock track of all time. Dumdedumdedum, dumdedumdedum, dumdedumdedum, dumdedumdedum...BA WAAAAA ....oh, how I used to wait for that moment.... no wonder my teeth are loose... nope - Dumdedumdedum, dumdedumdedum, dumdedumdedum, dumdedumdedum... ba waaaa Sorry. Vinyl and stereo sound systems suits some kinds of music better.
No it didn't. The report and all the duplicates were fabrications. The person quoted as disliking the film, Aaron Clarey at Return of Kings is a proponent of Neomasculity and is anti-MRA. I know because I occasionally read the site. http://www.returnofkings.com/7877/the-mens-rights-movement-is-no-place-for-men A quote from the Netzine Cultured Vultures: Editor’s note: this article contains misinformation regarding the blogger on Return of Kings, the classification of menimism and the calls for a boycott. This information has been sourced from leading publications that have not retracted their statements. We have left the article in its original state for semblance. Cultured Vultures would like to apologise for any offense caused. If anyone is interested, here is an actual review of the film by an MRA site: http://www.avoiceformen.com/feminism/mad-max-fury-road-a-real-mens-rights-activists-review/
Wow, so the men's rights movement can't even decide what's men's rights and what isn't. I'm going to save a love of time and energy here and never listen to anything you ever say again.
JUST WALK AWAY YOU CAN PUT A STOP TO ALL THIS, JUST WALK AWAY AND WE WILL SPARE YOUR LIVES JUST WALK AWAY......
All right, folks, the MRA-related tangent is a political subject, so while it's, to a degree, related to an entertainment product, it's off-topic, so if people want to discuss MRAs or anti-MRAs like Return of Kings etc, take it to the Debate Room. @Jack Asher, for future reference, when you start threads in the entertainment section, keep the OP within the area's subject matter (in this case, entertainment), or the thread will be moved into the correct area (in this case, the Debate Room). Anyway, I for one am looking forward to watching this one. It'll be interesting to see how they've handled sensitive subjects like human trafficking/sexual slavery, and whether the movie will join the likes of Aliens as an example of solid representations of strong action heroines.
As in the review link I provided, it seems that those subjects are handled pretty well and that the female protagonists are believably tough and competent in the Ripley kind of way. Heck, the film starts off with Max himself as a victim. Charlize Theron has always been good at portraying believable female action leads.
Seriously? I would love to get hold of a good remaster of that album. How can I tell beforehand if it will be any good? Is there some sort of designation I should look for, on the CD Specs?
Honestly I couldn't tell you, because it's all in the prevue of the sound engineer. Usually you should look for a CD with the same cover art as the album you liked so much. Usually the cover art is married to the master for...some kind of reason, I guess. Alternatively, is your DVD player/TV setup on 5:1 sound? Because switching from straight stereo (which is all a CD can handle) to six channels is going to make the whole thing sound pretty weak. @T.Trian I did see that you commented the pissing off the MRA was a plus, so I'm not sure why the potential to turn this into a conflict is my fault. Regardless I've put the voice of dissension on ignore, so I doubt this will turn into a conflagration of the like you and I have caused.
