    Name: Haval Vyseni

    Sex: Male

    Age: 34

    Nationality: The Scaled Empire

    Profession: Knight-Captain

Traits: Haval is generally a friendly person. He is unused to dealing with other due to the amount of time he spent around dragons. He gets aggressive toward those that threaten his dragons or Khana, and he fights with a strength and viciousness that could be seen as a gift from the very dragons he protects.

Biography: Haval started out as an overseer for a small egg clutch, young and somewhat of a recluse he spent most of his time among them, even upon their hatching. His devotion to them was such that a rumor began of him attempting to lay with one of the beasts. He trained as a knight and pledged himself to the dragon who's eggs he'd cared for, Khana. Khana is somewhat of a runt among dragons and Haval is currently her only servant.

Like most of the Torun, he is unskilled in the way of magic, preferring to use his hands to get the job done; though, after many years of trying he has learnt to create a very small orb of light using lunar energy, which he uses quite often as the snowy peaks are ever cast in seemingly endless night.

    Name: Mixine

    Sex: Female

    Age: 22

    Nationality: Brackenmarsh

    Profession: Witch

Traits: Mixine is very difficult to read or understand, but she has such a poor understanding of social norms that it is better to assume her complete ignorance in any and all situations. Her true nature only comes out when she works or is under great stress. If a person can get past her lack of hygiene and social awkwardness it is quite possible to find her company pleasant. Though most people do not get too close enough to see what is under the black cloak that conceals her entirety.

Biography: From even before she was weened, Mixine would play with her older sister in the thick reeds and decaying marsh, playing with the mud toads and collecting brambles. When she was three years old, Mixine and her sister encountered a deadly eel during their play and were quickly overwhelmed. The events of that day are a mixed blur to her now, she only remembers crying and the surge of magic that saved her life. Though the eel was slain, the gift of magic was impressed upon her sister and the next solstice saw their parting, as was the norm. In what should have been a joyous event, Mixine alone mourned the loss of her sister - her only friend in this world.

As Mixine grew, she felt magic surge within her kept it hidden, out of fear of the Muse. At 8, she began to hunt to feed her family, but her natural prowess was exceptional and alarming. Each time Mixine would go out, she would bring back a snake, a mudfish, or other game - her kills all bearing no mark. Her father realized the connection quickly, Mixine was not scavenging the dead, she was actively hunting. Out of desperation, he kept Mixine's magic secret from the village and from the Muse. Mixine's mother soon passed and returned to the swamp on the eve of Mixine's 11th birthday. Four year later, an illness would claim her father's life - leaving her alone in the world.

Now 15, Mixine was taken in by a kindly old medicine woman, who quickly learned that Mixine was capable of magic. Pleading as if for her life, Mixine convinced the old woman to keep quiet about such powers. It was not by Mixine's persuasion, so much so that by age and wits of the old woman, that Mixine remained. Baba, as she was affectionately called, implored Mixine to take up folk medicine. Establishing herself as a salve-maker, Mixine spent the next six years learning everything she could before time claimed her mentor and closest friend. Mixine's status quickly turned against her, as an untouched flower of the Brackenmarsh, it was expected for her to take a man and have children. Ill-prepared to handle these demands, Mixine fled the Brackenmarsh with all that she could take.

Six months of travel have hardened Mixine's feet and will, wandering from place to place. Traveling under a very large black over-cloak, it is difficult to tell if Mixine is even human underneath the tent-like drapery. Several strange points stick out both in front and behind Mixine, giving her the appearance of being a thickly armored hulk. Underneath all of her adornments, her pale gray skin is marred from years in the Brackenmarsh's mud and from concoctions of all sorts slathered on her body. Her long black hair is uncut and poorly groomed, extending down to her ankles and it peaks out from beneath the edge of her over-cloak.

What is concealed within her underclothes, basket and over-garb is a mystery, but to the unfamiliar eye - Mixine's appearance conceals her so well that she is of indeterminate sex, age, and even size. Even under the cloak, Mixine conceals her face with a wooden mask. Her entire appearance would seem imposing and intimidating if not for the slow hobbling pace in which Mixine walks with a simple metal rod firmly held in hand. Instead of a woman in her early 20s, she walks like a decrepit old man, shuffling along at her own pace.

Okay people, let's get this show on the road, time to start having people meet each other before we get this show off the road and into the streets. On a less positive note, Arvak has dropped out due to time reasons.

Alright... Marcus and Jade are going to meet soon, and it looks like Mixine and Mahtr are doing well together. They're all headed to the ancient city... some for completely different reasons than others. Sounds like it's going to be interesting.

I'll be doing more once everyone gets inside as that's what I've got the most planned out for. But I know plans tend to have wrenches thrown into them with things like these.

    Can I join? :p

    Name: Vetiver Longhand

    Sex: Male

    Age: 27

Nationality: The Northern Wastes, The Cracked Plains

    Profession: Sorcerer

    Traits:
    Posh
    Aloof
    Intellectual
    Sarcastic
    Vengeful

Biography: Vetiver comes from a long line of female witches who were constantly in danger of being discovered and burned at the stake. He was the first male born to be born in their family and was also gifted with extreme magical power. As a child, Vetiver's mother, aunts, cousins, and grandmother impressed on him that he was to keep his powers hidden for fear that he would be found out and executed. His parents worried about him because he was exceptionally talented at spells, especially with curses. On several occasions, bullies would cross him and they would mysterious fall ill, or have 'accidents' and get hurt. The priests and witch hunters began to suspect that there was something strange about Vetiver and his entire family. They didn't have any hard evidence, so they kept watch and even told Vetiver's neighbors to spy on his family.

Noticing that they were being spied on, Vetiver's grandmother (a great seer and a powerful witch) took Vetiver to the market and they bought a huge boa constrictor from an exotic animals shop. When he asked his grandmother why he needed a snake pet, she only smiled enigmatically and said, "He will save your life one day, my beautiful boy, that's why." Vetiver was still confused, but he decided to forget about it; his grandmother was prone to speak in riddles and he knew it was better to just go with the flow.

When Vetiver was seventeen, he was coming home from the marketplace when he took a shortcut down an alley and was confronted by a witch hunter. The witch hunter was drunk and slammed Vetiver against a wall repeatedly, yelling for him to confess that he was a witch. After the third time he was slammed against the wall, Vetiver felt blood gushing from the back of his head and he knew that if he didn't defend himself, he might die. With a great effort, Vetiver gathered all of his mental power and pushed the witch hunter away with telekinesis. The witch hunter fell on his back and started screaming "Witchwitchwitch!" over and over. Vetiver was frozen in sheer panic, but, to his surprise, his pet snake slithered down from the roof of the building behind the witch hunter. It quickly wrapped around the witch hunter and squeezed him with enormous strength. In just a few moments, he was dead.

Vetiver knew that his grandmother's premonition had been fulfilled, but he didn't have time to relax: he suddenly had a vision (his first ever vision) of a woman who had witnessed the entire fight with the witch hunter. The woman had ran to the priests and the priests were currently alerting the witch hunters. Quickly, Vetiver picked up the snake, draped it over his shoulders, and ran home to warn his family. When he got there and told them his story, they decided that the only course of action left was to send him away. They couldn't all escape the witch hunters, but they figured that Vetiver by himself would be able to get away. So, they packed his luggage, put his snake inside a wicker basket, gave him the family spellbook and their most treasured magical relics, and a pouch of gold coins. After a brief, tearful good-bye, he rode away from town on their only horse. When he crested a high hill, he turned back and watched as the witch hunters surrounded his family house. All the women of the family were gathered on the roof, working together to Raise the Wind and Call Down Lightning, and the men of the family barracked all the entrances. They injured and killed many witch hunters with fierce gust-winds and lightning strikes, but eventually they grew tired and collapsed from exhaustion, one by one. The witch hunters decided to set fire to the house and burn them all inside, and they stood guard so no one could escape the flames.

Vetiver traveled far and wide after that, doing magic for villagers in exchange for coin, and eventually he made quite a name for himself. His spells worked so well that he attracted the attention of rich folk and amassed a small fortune. People started calling him 'Longhand', because his fingers were exceptionally long and because he could move objects at a distance with his mind. Eventually, Vetiver rode back to his old village along with a band of guards and slayed every witch hunter that participated in slaughtering his family. Over the years, he honed his magical abilities, learning how to speak telepathically with his pet snake as well as other animals, and he became a great seer like his grandmother.

Do I wait for approval after I post my template? Also, hey @Bewitched!

    Name: Merrique von Pointe

    Sex: Female

    Age: 29

    Nationality: Tynaven

    Profession: Sorceress

    Traits:
    Girlish
    Adventurous
    Fun-loving
    Compassionate
    Strong

Biography: Merrique comes from a highly respected clan, of which her father was one the wisest leaders and bravest warriors. It was a surprise to her family when she developed magical talents, because they didn't have any immediate family members gifted with sorcery, but it quickly became clear that Merrique was a very talented sorceress. At the age of ten, she levitated plates and forks at the dinner table, and she would create dancing orbs of light to amuse her younger siblings. Merrique also helped her mother in the garden and learned a lot about plants, but not as much as her mother, who was a skilled healer.

As Merrique grew older, she blossomed into a beautiful young lady and was pursued relentlessly by men, but she never showed any interest in them. She was far too busy running wild and poring over all the books of magic that she could find. Under her father's tutelage she became proficient at hand-to-hand combat, bow and arrow, and how to fight with a dagger. When she wasn't playing with her siblings, reading books, or learning to fight, she was looking through the treasure trove of magical relics that their people had collected under their crystal city. Merrique proved extremely talented at figuring out what the relics could do, even the ones that no one else could figure out how to work. She made it her personal mission to write a record of all the relics and her father gifted her with a huge leather-bound journal to use for her task.

And when they were attacked by bands of rogues or ferocious beasts, Merrique did not hide with the children and the elders, but she fought alongside the warriors. She saved her father's life and the lives of her people many times in battle, slaying rogues and terrible monsters alike. The people began to say that she would make a great leader one day, but at the age of nineteen, Merrique was haunted by vivid dreams telling her to go to Torun. Merrique decided not to ignore the dreams and packed her things for a long trip. Before she left, she chose three relics from the treasure trove to take with her: an inexhaustible quiver of arrows, a magical garnet ring, and a pair of silk shoes that made her as light as a feather. The only other weapons she had was her dagger and her hands.

Merrique traveled to Torun, only running into a few beasts and rogues on the road that she defeated with ease. She reached the village that she saw in her dreams and was greeted by a tough old sorceress named Alzora. Alzora claimed to be Merrique's great-great-great-great-great aunt and that she had called Merrique there to complete her sorcery training. Alzora taught Merrique everything she knew, even how to turn into a giant wolf. Merrique's training was finished after five years, but she stayed another five years because she fell in love with Torun, the bitter cold and the relentless snow, and she loved Alzora dearly. But one day a giant attacked, and Alzora saved Merrique but was killed in the process.

After Alzora's funeral, Merrique returned home to find that her father had passed away and that her jealous uncle, Johannes, had taken his place and forced Merrique's mother to marry him. He had also somehow convinced everyone that Merrique was an evil witch and that she had killed her own father. Merrique suspected that Johannes had used a relic to enchant everyone into believing his lies, but when she tried to tell them, they wouldn't listen and they banished her. Merrique kept the three relics she had already taken and left in search of the Tarnished City, hoping that there would be a powerful relic or spell there that could help her defeat her uncle.

Whoo... this is getting somewhat crowded. Marcus's mercenaries, Jade, Vetiver, and Merrique are all together, and they'll be at the gates in an hour or two of travelling, which Marcus's group will do in the morning. None of the people really seem to like Marcus that much... I guess that'll be a point of contention later on. Anyway, wonder what the gate holds for our characters...

Lol, Brandon. Well, Vetiver is a huge snob, he rarely likes anyone. Merrique seems nice, though.

    And hey, @Erik-the-Enchanter! <confetti>

Hey, I suggest to have the group of characters lose the bandits soon, except for maybe one or two of them. This is really crowded and I bet we'll run into Mixine and Mahtr very soon

Yep, sounds good. Once they come into the gate, we'll have them split up into two groups: those who thinks its a bad or useless idea to search around in the abandoned city, preferring to leave, and those whom are curious enough to enter. I'll only bring Marcus, Kent, and Dart. Kent and Dart have no plot armor, so they'll be open to die later on.

Well, it's not really a cliche...it's just how roleplaying works. Main characters don't die, unless someone drops out the game. I dropped out a game a while ago and had my character sacrifice himself to save the others.

As a GM I shall reward paying attention, exploration and interesting ideas with you're character getting closer to their goal, either knowledge or relics. As a mean and cruel writer, I shall punish them for their stupidity. If they touch something and they don't know what it has, I can't be blamed for what happens.
