Firefly getting canceled made me want to jump off a bridge. It was so good. But in response to the original post: I understand where you are coming from. I myself would like to have ample say and finality in my covers as well.
Yeah it was pretty good. It lost some of its charm with a bigger budget. But it was good nonetheless.
I'm so excited, all six of my nipples are tingling... Oh, and Steerpike, re: your sig, "My nipples explode with delight!"
Hahah this is a question that hits home for me, i enjoy writing, but also my job is that of a graphic designer so i always wondered what would happen if i get a book published (God willing) what would happen during that area. As a designer I would like input, but i know that I would not like to have anyone treading on my toes if i was the publisher designer. The saving grace for them is they work in the market, and if they are worth their salt they should be able to capture the genre and the customer. Though if i get that far, im gonna see if i can design it myself and get money off haha (worth a try i suppose).
Please dont take this the wrong way, we love our work to us it is the child we raised, but we sometimes might have trouble with the climate of design at the time, (the hobbit has had like 100 different cover in its lifetime) so what we think might be right is only right for us and maybe a small handful, we have to trust the publishers that they know what they are doing, after all we are giving them our work, the cover art might be a small price to pay.
