    The best laid plans..........

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Gladiatus, Aug 26, 2008.

Well, as some of you know, I am due to be in Germany right now.

    Well I'm not. :(

We were all packed and ready to go. Then the words which will remain with me for a while were spoken

"Do you know your passport has expired sir?"

Those were the words the check-in assisstant said to my friend at check-in.

So he couldn't get on the plane, I couldn't really go without him.

In the end we didn't lose alot of money, only £30ea for the flights. The hostel was a pay when you get there joint and that was it.

All in all it was a lesson : Check you stupid passport!

    The best laid plans..........

Honestly, I would have gone without him. Of course, going to Germany from the U.K. isn't quite as big a deal as going there from the U.S. Still, that really sucks.

Yeah, you guys are pretty much alone, apart from Canada and Mexico.

It was only for 3 days and it would have meant I needed to pay for the whole price of the room instead of splitting it in 2. I would have been pretty strapped for cash and a little lonely in a country that I dont speak a word of the language.....

Happened to me four weeks ago. A friend and I at check in for a flight from the UK to the US - "sorry sir, (to my friend) this passport is not valid for travel to the US". His passport had been issued by an embassy rather than the passport office. As such, it came with unknown provisoes. I however, did go without him as we were due to meet another friend in the US. Still sucks though. Hard luck to you and your friend though.

My condolences on that happening. I hope you're able to have another trip sometime soon.

I thought it was a given that you check your passport expiry date when you think about booking a holiday...

Well, anytime you need something, you can always bring that up.

"Well, dude, you did screw up our trip to Germany. You kinda owe me..."
