The issue was raised a few years ago when someone won with a story that had been published before. It upset people who had written a story as a response to the promot. Obviously, people can post their stories where they like, after the contest.

Great point. Yes, stories must be written in English.

But by entering the contest, won't our stories be available to be seen by at least forum members or even could be google-able? So, if we enter, we probably shouldn't enter in something we want to be published some day?

I've brought this up before because it's an issue. If the work can't be published elsewhere, why try hard? In other words, what's the motivation to put in all my effort here instead of trying to get it published in a paying market? I can't be the only one thinking this.

For me--I don't want to publish short stories, but I still enjoy writing them and taking part in the contests.

For others? They have to decide. :)

Can we change the subforum name to Monthly Short Story Contest now? "Bi-weekly" is driving my OCD brain insane.

Don't. We could always use a bit of crazy around here.

Good question. I'd rather people didn't until after voting, only because if one entry gets loads of likes it's a bit discouraging for the others.

Also a good point! @Wreybies? Or is this a @Daniel thing?

Due to the season changing from summer (love it!) to fall (hate it!).....I can't wait to spend more time hanging out here on the forums once again. Thanks @Tenderiser for taking this over and renovating it - can't wait to start writing and reading the entries :) I love the new format/rules/prompts/awards - well done! This is gonna be a blast with you at the helm.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

I've only really just started focussing on my writing in a serious way over the last few months. I obviously have so much to learn and find the contest an easy way to get a story written. I can practice things I've read about or write a genre out of my comfort zone.

Looking forward to this, have made an entry and have got a vague idea who I'm going to vote for. A vague one :superthink:

Yes, it's always that reveal part at the end of it that's shock-tastic. I too like a few of the stories. It's intriguing to know who wrote them, as well as the ones I wouldn't vote for, because an awesome effort has been made by all of them
