I agree sometimes it can be taken too far and offence taken when non was intended or even aimed HOWEVER

She was plenty peer reviewed by the people around her :) My Gran and my Mum brought me up to be polite - part of that is not deliberately offending people, showing respect, accepting people for who they are.

Not everyone is fortunate to have great women (EDIT such great role models) in their background and sometimes they need state help to make up for it.

Nine times out of ten those that winge about political correctness do so because they weren't taught about good manners and respecting people no matter who they were.

I do think sometimes it can go overboard if someone tells a joke and it was just that a joke. But ... if I tell a joke that offends someone I do evaluate and consider if it was worth it - however slight it felt to me.

Oh dear, oh dear. Gender assumptions and assumptions about the family model. I think you mean that "Different persons primary care givers are variously skilled." No apostrophe on "persons" because that would suggest superiority over persons who can't punctuate correctly. ;)

lol you are quite right how does not everyone has the advantage of such great role models ?- I came from a traditional Irish family where the matriachs reigned supreme - the men were lovely but didn't exert the same sphere of influence and to be honest tended to be more bigoted (no catholics, gays, black people etc)

EDITED LOL: But then a gay male is one of my kids influences in the right direction, and their Daddy is a sweetie.

There is a reason on my facebook page the other day I had the following on my wall one after the other within ten minutes of each other:

    Muslim friend posting homophobic stuff
Followed by cousin asking for a pot spanish sperm (she is a lesbian) - the discussion following it was not PG-13
Mormon thing on Word of Wisdom
Followed by an invite to a beer festival
Finally I got a same sex wedding announcement.
Followed immediately by a recipe for chicken.

You were lucky - I got a Muslim friend with a phobia for chickens, then I got a recipe for Spanish pot, then some instructions for Mormon porn, and finally a no-sex wedding announcement. ;)

    Whoa...

Dude, I sincerely doubt you have any "finished, peer-reviewed studies" to back up what you originally asserted as "Fact".

Trouble is bigotry has never required 'fact' it never requires the same standards of itself as it does of other.

lol well my husband does call him the other husband :) - no my best friend is gay, my husband (and Dad to my kids) is as far as I am aware straight :) Back to add an and into the sentence

Although there is no reason why my kids Daddy would have to be the same man as my husband :) That's how they both managed extended visiting hours in the hospital when I had them - gay friend said he was the child's father and my husband was allowed in to visit me.

    Hahahaha!

My aim was to discredit the wildly subjective prejudice that you presented as fact and highlight it for what it was, an opinion. A very populist opinion at that.

I don't need peer reviewed research to back up my opinion. Care to provide peer reviewed studies for your own 'FACT' I mean, opinion?

    Hilarious.

Edit: Hmm peer reviewed studies of people who oppose political correctness?? I'd have to do some digging but in the mean time what about every tabloid red top newspaper in the UK?

:) Should try living with my brain lol It kind of spends it's life whirling ideas - eventually a few good ones fly out in a linear fashion but that takes effort.

But most of those cases are invented by the red-tops themselves.
