Critique Exchange Advice from a published award winning author

Discussion in 'Collaboration' started by nippy818, Sep 13, 2015.

Yesterday I was given the chance to do a writing workshop with Connie Willis. One piece of advise she gave was to join, or form a writing workshop group. She specified not a weekend retreat you paid for but a group of people that meets regularly to read and critique one another's work. My current writing buddy and I have decided to form a small group in Northern Colorado and if anyone is interested let me know and we can hash out the details. I hope I am not the only one in this area interested in doing this. thank you.

You can use Meetup to recruit local writers. I've been in a group about three years now, best thing that ever happened for my writing skills.

We have some excellent writers in the group and some that aren't. You learn from the good ones and learn from critiquing the not as good writers. You get to know fairly quickly who won't last. They argue with the group's advice.

There's a writer's group in Denver I go to, I met them on meetup. Depending where in "Northern Colorado" you are, I'm sure there's something for you.

I am sad to admit I am in Greeley. Born and raised. I will look into that group.

Other than the cow and pot stench its pretty great. Greeley has several micro breweries and a micro distillery. One day, one day I'll live in Steamboat though.

I used to live in Steamboat, long before a freeway ran through it. Incredible place.

I'm pretty sure we could always use more beauticians, babs.

From what I have heard, according to my friends who live there, there is a major shortage among quality hair stylists.

One of these days ... sigh ...

There are a lot of barbershop in this area. From small mom and pop shops to the bigger ones like Roosters.
