How would you go about advertising?

Discussion in 'Marketing' started by Kylo, Aug 27, 2008.

I need to make some money so I can publish my book, but I can't get anyone to buy my stuff. I've got lots for sale, and a lot of it's pretty good, but the problem is advertising. I don't know where I am and am not allowed to advertise, and most ad services cost more money than I'd be able to make back. So does anyone know what I should do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do a David Lynch and sit by the side of a motorway with a cow, and a sign saying the name of my book, the price and where to buy it.

I would do a load of very cheap puplicity stunts like this, and also the book signings and such.

You don't need to make money to publish your book unless you want to self-publish. Go to a regular publishr or agent. However, once you've got it published, it is true that you need to do some of the promoting yourself. Lemex is right, though. Do a load of publicity stuff. Advertise on free sites like facebook. Now that you're a member of this group, tell us about it and we can pass it along. If I ever get a book published, I just might go to Speakers' Corner to promote it. (You donate a dollar and they put you on TV if they think you're interesting). Heck, if you know the librarians at your local library, talk to them about having an event.

Dance around in a book costume.
Of course the book costume has to have your name on it.

    You will need:

    1.) A large sheet
    2.) Some paint
    3.) A few zip ties
4.) An overpass on a major highway

    That's what's called guerrilla advertising.

I am not too sure about this myself actually. Can you not like pay a book store to advertise your book, give it like a main shelf place or something like that? Otherwise, spread the word, make sure everyone knows you have a book out, gets family and friends to pass it on etc. After that, I would not have a clue really.

what 'stuff' are you trying to sell?

do you have amnesia?... are you locked in a dark basement, having been taken there blindfolded?

    says who?... and why not?

i'll be glad to offer some, as soon as you tell me what you want to sell and can figure out where you are...

    love and puzzled hugs, maia
