Change to the Short Story Contest rules.

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Short Story Contest Archives' started by Lemex, Feb 4, 2013.

From here on I will be changing the rules of the forum contest: A story entered into the contest may not be one that has been posted anywhere on the internet, not just anywhere on this site.

This small change will, I hope, clear up questions I have been getting regarding the rules.

Fixed a typo, originally I had written a double negative, stating exactly the opposite of what I meant. I made a mistake, sorry. :)

Tsk tsk. You bring shame upon your country, your family name, and the entire yodelling fraternity.

Good rule. I also recommend clearly stating that members may not repost the story, or bring attention to it in any way, until the voting is closed. That would include members with an active entry urging other members to vote (a conflict of interest).

There have been problems with members slyly or shamelessly attempting to influence the vote. And that is pretty pathetic, considering there is no prize other than bragging rights.

It's to everyone's benefit to keep the competitions as clean and equitable as possible.

^Very good point, though I will reword it, if you don't mind: 'members may not repost a story anywhere, or bring attention to the contest in any way, until the voting is closed'.

Just to be perfectly clear, does this apply to all forum members or only those with a story entered in the contest?

Maybe a daft question but what are the general rules about submitting a story? Do you need to have a certain amount of votes to be allowed to enter?

The rules can be found on each 'details' thread. The contest is open to any member, no limitations.

    One suggestion:

I know the special formatting (italics, bold, underline) get lost when you do a cut and paste, but can't you do a REPLY WITH QUOTE and then cut and paste the text? Wouldn't that preserve the formatting?
