Whats the appropriate term for a person who

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by MatrixGravity, May 1, 2011.

What do you call somebody who ..

Whenever you need them for support, they're too busy to pick up the phone or even bother listening to you, yet when a situation in their life arises you're just obligated to help them because they always come to you when they need something but they won't return the favor if hardly.

Of course, if you're looking to boil that behavior down to one or two words you might be making a mistake. It'd be more interesting to flesh out the relationship between the two people and explore why the person feels obligated to help even though they're put off by the whole situation.

Sorry, I do know how your character feels to have a friend like this though!

When I vent about her I usually call her a drama queen, attention seeker, or a diva because it's always got to be about her, like the whole world revolves around her and me breaking my foot pales in significance to her dad not letting her go to a convention. Whoops, that got a bit personal!

A fair weather friend - is a well known phrase here in the UK.

It means - As long as everything is fine and going well, this type of person is quite happy to be to be your friend, at the first sign of trouble they skedaddle.

    It's explained on Google.

There's a terrible academic word for somebody who creates their own world, lives in it and expects everyone else to be their audience: 'autotelic'.

Dunno when you'd ever get the chance to use it, though...

I think the "Artist's Way" calls that a "crazy maker" I can't be sure because I sacrificed that tape to my own crazy maker because it impressed her so much to fight against her crazy makers.

Haha. There was this girl who used to be my crazy maker. Her mother and sister were her crazy makers. We were listening to "the Artist's Way" in the car and the part about crazy makers impressed the girl so much that I gave her the tape.

I believe a "crazy maker" is "one who makes you crazy". Probably should be hyphenated. :D
