    Chaos Inc's Progress Journal

Discussion in 'Progress Journals' started by Chaos Inc., Jul 20, 2014.

    I'm starting one.

Right now I'm procrastinating by reading these forums.

Life Goal: 5 Book series featuring 5ish different genres. All exist in the same timeline.

    Book 1: Fantasy

    Book 2: Horror

    Book 3: Modern Mystery/Thriller

    Book 4: Sci-fi

Book 5: Sci-fi Fantasy Fusion (think dragons fighting alien spaceships, it won't be as hokey as it sounds).

    Book 1
    Conceptualized Progress: 100%
Writing Progress: Rough Draft ??% (5,254 words)

    Book 2
    Conceptualized Progress: 40%
    Writing Progress: Nada

    Book 3
    Conceptualized Progress: 0%
    Writing Progress: Pfffft!

    Book 4
    Conceptualized Progress: 10%
    Writing Prog...

    Book 5
    Conceptualized Progress: 1%

Special Note: There may need to be a 6th book between book 2 and 3 as the events between the two are significant.

Have to go to bed. Long day tomorrow. Chapter 1 just doesn't want to end.

Disclaimer: I'm constantly editing my above posts to reflect my progress. Although it may not appear I'm keeping up to date with my journal, I am.

Torn on how to finish up the first chapter. The 2nd chapter starts pretty intense.

Chapter 1 complete(ish). There's a lot of edits I want to make and expand on a couple sections that lack the impact I want.

Someone very wise mentioned reading a book called "Save the Cat." It's by a Hollywood screen writer by who's name I didn't bother to remember but I clearly remember their words. As a result, I've turned my 1st chapter into 5 chapters that follow the "beats" of many successful films.

It helps mostly in setting specific goals to achieve by certain parts of the story. I thought I had to fill my first chapters with a bunch of junk (because that's what I remember a bunch of other writers doing) before they even get to the main story.

I may actually post my first excerpt if I'm feeling masochistic.

Save the Cat is a fantastic book, I had to read that for my screenwriting class. Keep in mind thought, that novels are very different from film and can play with time and space in different ways. Also classic hollywood is built on a three act structure, something novels don't need to adhere to.

On hiatus. My writing is looking like computer code.
