Actually, if you look back through the threads on this forum, you'll see quite a few of them. Personally, character templates aren't my style, though.

I agree with Cogito, charector templates are not always the best option. But aye, if you want to create one it is simple, think about what sort of things you ant to know about your charector, name, age, sex, appreance, personality, history etc etc. There are plenty posted throughout the site though and very easy to find if you give it a little look.

I've not heard of this character template thing. Is this a technique?

Well, if one wished to create or expand on a character this would help greatly. However my character is ingrained with in my head and I've already written a first draft with him being the main character. I just wish to record a written template of my character for future gener... I mean for the sake of recording it. (I will grow old and forget things sadly)

I think a 'template' is a few questions to flesh out the character. Just off the top of my head...

    Name
    Age
    Gender
    Date of birth
    Place of birth
    Species
    Looks
    Good/Bad/Other
    Nicknames
    Friends
    Enemies
    What really annoys them
    What they admire
    Favourite foods
    Guilty pleasures
    Relationships with other characters
    How they view other characters
    How other characters view them
    Evolution/changes
    History
    Previous identities/lives
Middle name that they are mortally afraid of anyone finding out

I like doing templates like that personally.

I really don't find templates that useful. A character needs an environment to work with, choices to make, and conflicts to overcome. Anything else is a MySpace bio.

But, if you really want one, something like the above post is the best route to go. There's also software you can get your hands on that helps, but they're all a bit pricey.

I actually do find templates useful, if only for the purpose of keeping my facts straight. Characters for me are the most fun to create, and I like to know everything about them even if I don't use some of the information in the text. But my writing is pretty character-oriented, so obviously it's not the same for everyone.

BTW: H-E's bio template is the type that I'm talking about.
