    a type of dysmorphia?

Discussion in 'Research' started by Penny Dreadful, Feb 6, 2009.

I was struck with a nagging idea for a new short story. I was planning a nice little research session for myself, and then I realized I had forgotten the name of a disorder integral to the story.

What is the name of the psychological disorder in which someone believes a particular body part does not belong on them? Hopefully that's enough of a description.

Well, there it is. For some reason, I wasn't finding that specific kind of dysmorphia on any websites. They seem to all be focused on anorexia and bulimia >.<. I was hoping it had a specific name, but at least now I know I was right in assuming it to be a form of body dysmorphia.

Thank ya. Of course, if anyone knows of another name for it, I'm all ears. In the mean time, I'll suppose I'll try sifting through the eating disorders for what I need.

I do believe that's the specific name I was looking for. Thanks, sorites!

There's also "Alien Hand syndrome", in which one of the sufferer's hands appears to them to operate independently and have a mind of its own.
