    Grammar Photographic Punctuation

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by dillseed, May 15, 2014.

If I am labeling a photograph that includes my son and me, what is the proper grammar?

Beneath the picture, would it be correct to write the elliptical “My son and me” or “My son and I”? The same with "My family and me” or “My family and I”?

    Thank you. :)

I vote for 'me.' A picture of only yourself wouldn't be captioned 'I,' and you wouldn't say: "Look, that's I on my trip to the Gulf!"

You're right! I never thought of it in that respect. That makes total sense!

    Thanks, Okon!

'me' does make sense in that instance, as okon noted...

labeling the picture that way has an implied 'this is' before the 'my son and me' which makes that the object of the sentence... and the object form of the personal pronoun is 'me'... as in 'this is me'...

to use 'I' that would have to be the subject of the sentence, such as:

'my son and I are in this picture' just as one would say, 'I am in this picture'...
