Need help with a fantasy word

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by katica, Mar 2, 2011.

What kind of room would a wizard create potions in?

I've been calling it the laboratory, but I realized that's more of a mad scientist thing than a wizard thing.

Mad scientists do experiments in laboratories and wizards create potions in ___________________. What is the blank?

I think an apothecary is more of a business establishment than a lab.... I would probably go with workshop.

The only thing about workshop is that it sounds Harry Potter-ish. Of course, if that's what you're going for, great.

Assuming he is doing more than just creating potions, maybe a reliquary would fit. Could have it store magical artifacts and whatnot, and that's a nice sorcery-sounding word.

Perhaps he studies things in there, maybe observatory.

    Hi,

Lair, sanctum, chamber? But apothecary works well to since its what we now call a pharmacy.

    Cheers.

I have heard the room being called:

    1.lab
    2.workshop
3.if making potions, apothecary would work.

I do like the potionary, as a room for making potions.

You can use the general terms; lab or workshop
or get more precise in identifying the room as to its purpose.

Generally, most people call the place where a wizard make his concoctions a lab or laboratory.

You can call it whatever you like really. Laboratory. Labrynth. Study. Tower. Pharmacy.

An apothecary is very similar to a pharmacist.
