    it was late
    but they still kept coming

    bodies covered in dust
    and
    the pulverized remains
    of shaken structures

    we erected tents
    an entire city of canvas
    as the muddied feet
    from broken water mains

    still kept coming

    we didn't stop
    through the night

until the dawn gave us pause

    standing
    blinking
    as if surprised

    that the sun rose still

Congrats!!! Your poem made me think of "another day" as a soldier. Intense by way of subtlety -- thanks for allowing us to read it!
