    Day of Womans

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by matwoolf, Mar 8, 2016.

Brothers & sister of old world Socialist Order we celebrate womans day march 8 with traditions in chocolate, wine and stockings for every woman.

(This international holiday celebrates the sacrifice of women during the Great Patrotic War, and continues to be celebrated - across the world, apparently.)

Also my wife has been accosted in the supermarket. Moments ago a drunk Polish man held her hand, her eyes, kissed her hand,

    'Happy Ladies day,' he said.

I am looking for him now, his eyes are mine.

For the rest of you - happy ladies' day, strength and honour, comrades.

I was informed of this holiday by, of all sources, eBay. They sent me an email giving me a heads-up.

Facebook informed of the holiday this morning. But unlike you wife, my only greetings have been from my computer. I will admit that my computer and I have an intimate relationship, but I'm still not sure of it's gender, so maybe it's a woman too! Then again, it's a tool, so maybe it's a man? I will let you know if any human males offer me a greeting . . .

I was informed via Snapchat filters of the woman's day celebration. I'm not sure what I'm suposed to do with the information. Drink wine? Eat chocolate?

Hmmm... Eating chocolate sounds nice. And hey, I've got an excuse right?

    --

An interesting side note: what do ya'll think of the snapchat filter? It says, "International Women's Day 2016 - WE RUN THE WORLD."
    Interesting choice of words...

Was there a suggested purchase involved? What DOES one buy to celebrate Women's Day (other than the aforementioned chocolate, wine and stockings?

Yes! :) Firstly there was a very pretty woman who could be Latina, Pacific Islander, or even of South East Asian descent, so... it seems eBay is aware that I am an equatorial denizen. ;) There's a nice lady's watch, some glam-glam makeup, a thing that is maybe a shirt or a dress but it's hard to tell because it's not actually being worn, and some gold-tone iPhones with requisite pretty floral screen wallpapers. :agreed:

I was informed by the Google Doodle, one of their best ever. I do believe it may reflect the effort to recruit more women into the computer tech world. :agreed:

Interesting, I got no such come-on despite getting multiple come-ons daily from eBay. I wonder if it went out to men only?

Funny, and I spent all morning at the doctors office reading my Human Trafficking book about how bad women and children are treated, especially in Asia. It truly is amazing how women can be treated so much differently in certain parts of the world.

49% of the world's population only gets one day out of the year and men get the other 364? Seems pretty sexist to me.

I was about to type up a really long, raging comment on this but then I realized it was going in the opposite direction I thought it would.

Also, since people seems to know little about this holiday I, as a fierece supporter, will take the liberty to elaborate a little. Note this is all based on my experience in the great North (Norway).

We celebrate this holiday not only to honour or losses but also to remind everyone that we still have a road to go to equality. Norway's one of the most equal countries in the world, but still a woman earns 0,86 Norwegian Kroners for every 1 kroners a man earns. We have a march addressing issues such as these to raise awareness for the example mentioned above, additional to cases such as introducing a third gender, international sexism etc.

Not only to raise awareness in cases that need attention in Norway, it's also for many a march for the women in less fortunate countries than ourselves. Countries where as extreme sexism in the society is still a huge problem and showing our support to them.

    Anyway, happy international women's day!

Happy International Women's Day! I got a 6,66 euro voucher to one of my go-to clothing and accessories shops, except it doesn't seem to remember what kind of stuff I usually order from there 'cause it recommended these.

Also, a preemptive request: :superidea: Let's keep this thread debate-free, shall we?

666 is the mark of the beast and a recommendation for trashy shoes, encouraging women to engage in the oldest profession in the book; clearly it's a conspiracy of Satan, celebrating the fall of Eve!

Oops! So much for that debate free bit. ;)

Hehe, it could be that. Or a hint that I should go for a certain career path (considered sinful by some) to celebrate womanhood. Unfortunately I'd resemble a pole-dancing T-Rex more than the real deal, so I choose not to be affected by advertising this time. :geek:

Here is a more appropriate representation:

    http://www.internationalwomensday.com/

    Hence the poster's frustration,

and I'm sorry about that. I was thinking more about the march of time, Iron Curtain, and Polish families - and their 'tradition' of 'Ladies Day,' [translation]. No offence intended with my flippancy..

I'm not sure anyone knew you were being flippant. I didn't. The anthem post was confusing but par for the @matwoolf course and not requiring an inquiry. :p

I think I just typed 'flippancy' because it sounded intelligent. If u could just forget I said it. The anthem was an accident also, ehmm.

Flippant you are @matwoolf not that there's an issue with that. :D

Didn't even know there was a woman's day, does that mean there is a man's day? And missing out on the hand kissing is fine but I'll remind hubby to buy me a belated pressy. He'll just stare at me blankly.

Honestly, my lazy skimming eyes initially read that to be some women's marathon event...haha

FWIW, there is no way you could keep me out of any show that had a pole-dancing T-Rex. That sounds amazing.
