describing someone's voice

    Maybe, maybe not. If you've described an accent merely because that's how you defined the character in your head, it still may not be necessary to describe it. Your personal view of a character need not necessarily be hammered into the reader in every detail.

    If your character has a nice Irish lilt, and the story is set in an Irish village, you have no need to mention the accent. It's only an accent when someone in the story is aware of it. Save the description until (and if) there is a situation where someone in the story would take note of it.

    AND if you needed some describing words just to add a little to your character then, use dictionaries like this:

    And don't go too far...
