Second draft: Tweaking or clean slate

Discussion in 'Revision and Editing' started by g_man526, Aug 3, 2014.

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've found the time to come here. I was wondering: to those who've made it as far as revised drafts, how do you approach it? Do you try to work your edits into your rough manuscript, or do you try to rewrite it with your changes? Thanks in advance!

I hate tweaking. I would much rather rewrite something from scratch, incorporating lessons about what worked and what did not work.

Whether this is good advice or not, I have no idea.

Haha well thanks. That will be a challenge, but I'm sure I'll find it far less tedious than trying to work a second draft around what I've already written.

I'm a pantser, so my first drafts get from beginning to end by pretty darn labyrintine paths. They need to be (mostly) straightened out, and that generally means a massive amount of butchering and rewriting.
