    Full Name: Dorian Dyson Cromwell

    Gender/Age: male, 38

    Job: occasional Captain

    Appearance:
Dorian is about 6'1" with a broad shouldered, lightly muscled build, and carries himself with a lazy, devil-may-care swagger. His light brunette hair is often roguishly unkempt, though the stubble on his chin is kept neatly trimmed. There is usually a glint of mischief in his deep brown eyes, but when danger arises he becomes dead serious. His uniform consists of gray trousers and a white shirt, often with the top button undone, and polished black leather boots. He usually has a captain's coat draped over his shoulders, like a cloak. His uniform bears the Aeternian Air Navy's insignia, a white feather with three gears around it.

    Personality:
Dorian has only a minimal regard for rules, rank, or decorum and is very lax in his duties, almost to the point of laziness or negligence. Despite his dislike of military life or structure, he has proven to be one of Aeternia’s best tacticians. His exploits in battle earned him the nickname “Dice,” due to his willingness to gamble everything when cornered. Women are his weakness. Dorian considers himself an avid scholar of the female form, in all of its myriad varieties, and rarely misses an opportunity to study one, both intellectually and aesthetically.

    Background:
Dorian Cromwell is the second son of a noble family with a long military history. He was unwilling to enlist, but his father demanded the boy make a name for himself in combat, so Dorian chose to become a duelist instead. He was actually quite good at it and had a promising future… until his brother was killed in the border wars. His father demanded he partake in “real combat.” Just to spite the man, Dorian joined the Air Navy as a laborer, shoveling coal and shining the shoes of uppity airship captains.

Unfortunately, he was too charming for his own good. One of those uppity captains took a liking to him and Dorian found himself moving up the ranks. In a few short years, he ended up in the vice captain’s chair of the Infinitum, one of Aeternia’s finest command ships, working shoulder-to-shoulder with one of its most decorated generals.

Years later, Dorian became captain of the Infinitum… six days before it exploded, killing three hundred men. The newspapers reported it as a boiler malfunction, but a secret investigation revealed the water in the ship’s reservoirs had spontaneously combusted -- the water turned to fire. A very disillusioned Dorian took a desk job for half a decade until he was summoned by the emperor to captain a new ship, the Feyfalken. He still does not believe in magic.

Skills: He has about twenty years of experience working in and around airships and is very comfortable in the sky, be it on deck or in a wingsuit. He is also a skilled duelist, in both pistols and rapiers, and not bad with a rifle either.

Misc: He usually has a revolver on one hip and an officer’s sword on the other. He keeps a well-stocked mini bar in his quarters and has a pet turtle named Sheldon or "The Don" for short.

    Full Name: Reina Integra Lancaster

    Gender/Age: female, 29

Job(s): Vice Captain, Chief of Staff, and Head Researcher

    Appearance:
Integra is a very petite woman, standing only 5’1," but carries herself with a straight-backed, chin-up, no-nonsense posture. She watches the world through cold, calculating blue eyes behind a pair of square-framed glasses perched low on her nose. Her short blonde hair is always kept prim and proper, with blunt bangs in the front, and not one strand out of place. Her daily attire consists of neatly creased gray trousers, low boots, a white shirt, and a dark gray necktie and vest, all tailored to precise specifications.

    Personality:
A life of isolation and quiet study has made Integra a natural loner, with zero tolerance for things that do not yield results. To her, people are a constant source of annoyance, but she has mastered the art of passive-aggressiveness, so she can suffer being around them for more than five minutes without losing her mind. Compassion and a sense of humor just get in the way, so she did away with that nonsense long ago and became a proud workaholic, constantly seeking new ways to choke the fun out of everything.

    Background:
For more than half a century, Lancaster Heavy Industries has been Aeternia’s leading manufacturer of steam engines, airship parts, and just about anything that ticks or tocks. The Lancaster family is the bleeding, oil-soaked heart of Aeternia’s military industrial complex and The Forever War keeps them very well-fed. But with her father’s health deteriorating, and each of her five older brothers eager to take his place, Reina Lancaster knew she’d never have a seat at the table.

There was no place for her in the family business, but she had no intention of being entirely overlooked. For generations, her family had produced some of the greatest engineering geniuses in Aeternia, all of them male. Reina began calling herself by her middle name, “Integra,” and stubbornly refused to be married off until she made at least one major scientific breakthrough.

No one is quite sure what, if anything, she discovered, but her father took a keen interest in her research and lent his support. When she reached marriageable age, he even began turning away the suitors, telling them his daughter is married to science. Integra attended many prestigious universities and became a career scholar, studying ancient texts and lost civilizations. She has spent the past year overseeing the construction of the Feyfalken… which is strange for someone with no engineering background.

Skills: She understands every facet of the Feyfalken, at least on a theoretical level, but can’t be bothered to turn a wrench. Her greatest skill is her knowledge of linguistics, history, ancient texts, and mythology. She also excels at micromanaging every aspect of the ship’s day-to-day operation.

Misc: She allegedly designed the Feyfalken, but dodges questions about which specific systems she actually worked on.

Full Name: Her true name is unspeakable in any human tongue; she simply goes by “Fey,” an old Arcanian word for elementals

Gender/Age: Fey only comes in one flavor, but it's always the one you want

Job: Senior Consultant on Arcane Affairs, Transdimensional Topography, and Carnal Knowledge

    Appearance:
Fey is made of living water, so she has no definite shape, but her favorite form is that of a beautiful woman. Because she feeds on the sexual desires of others, she tries to be as attractive as possible. Since the crew is predominantly male, her “default” appearance is a combination of stereotypical male fantasies -- large breasts, slender waistline, long shapely legs, wide hips, etcetera. When she finds out a person’s particular preferences, she sometimes tailors her appearance to them. During ‘intimate encounters,’ she can become just about anything her current mate desires. Her complexion, however, is always pale blue, with white hair, striking blue eyes, and distinctive ice-horns on her head.

Her appearance changes as her power increases. Fey’s body is made of water over a skeleton of ice. As she feeds, she becomes less transparent until her bones and the bluish glow of her heart are no longer visible and her horns grow from small nubs to long, curved monstrosities. When she is especially strong, strange markings begin to appear on her skin like war paint or the stripes of a poisonous animal, giving her a sinister appearance. Ironically, the stronger she gets, the more primal and demonic she appears, but she is actually less aggressive in this state because she is well-fed and no longer searching for a mate.

    Personality:
Fey is a creature of loose morals and ever-shifting desires. She is easily bored, so she spends most of her time seeking ways to entertain or pleasure herself. She has an appreciation for true romance… but that takes too damn long, so raw, unbridled lust is often her weapon of choice and she wields it masterfully. Fey can be very charismatic and even genuinely friendly, but beneath that is a creature who is instinctually predatory. She doesn’t always handle rejection well and has a dark side that comes out when she feels disrespected or unwanted, but she sometimes likes a mate who is playing hard to get. In her opinion, anyone brave enough (or stupid enough) to turn down a siren must be an exceptional person.

Most of all, Fey does not like to be alone or controlled and is most dangerous when she feels she is being manipulated or abandoned. When she helps others, she does so on her own terms; trying to blackmail, control, or manipulate her is like playing with fire. She is intensely loyal to her friends, but calling upon her for aid is a double-edged sword. When force becomes necessary she adopts a “scorched earth” policy, which can make her a frightening ally and a dangerous enemy. The ruthlessness with which she hunts her adversaries serves as a reminder that she is not human, but a force of nature. Although sirens are not easily provoked, their wrath is legendary.

    Background:
The name of Lucien LeVan Lancaster is well known throughout Aeternia. He is remembered as a great explorer, philosopher, and inventor, a man who sought to divine all of the world’s secrets, and later went on to found Lancaster Heavy Industries, one of the largest manufacturing firms in the world. He was a genius who not only searched for truths, but found them, packaged them, and sold them to the highest bidder. But there are some truths even a Lancaster won’t speak of, because no amount of fame or renown can lessen the sting of being labeled a mage.

Very little is known about the latter years of Lucien’s life. He suddenly handed LHI over to his son, Alexander Excelsius Lancaster, who grew the company into the economic giant it is today, while Lucien disappeared from the public spotlight. He stopped exploring the world and settled down to build Coldharbor, a massive underground research facility which nearly bankrupted the company. Lucien whiled away the last of his days in isolation, churning out engineering marvels at an astonishing rate, while he slowly wasted away, forgotten by his estranged wife and adult children.

Some say he was obsessed or had gone mad. Coldharbor’s infamous Laboratory 13 became Lucien’s personal padded cell and, eventually, his tomb. By the time of his death, he’d lost nearly half of his body weight and was barely recognizable, even to his family. The world mourned the loss of a genius. Many years and hard questions later, Alexander finally told his daughter, Reina Integra Lancaster, what had driven her grandfather crazy. When she came of age, he explained to her the true nature of Coldharbor. The entire facility was a magical apparatus created for one purpose: to contain a powerful being ripped from Transmundus and held prisoner on the material plane.

At age sixteen, a young Reina Lancaster was introduced to “Fey,” her grandfather’s mistress, muse, and murderer, a deadly siren he discovered in his travels. “There are some things even the greatest minds cannot comprehend. There are forces we cannot control, only contain,” her father explained as they stood before a large glass aquarium covered in arcane symbols, written in her grandfather’s blood. An impossibly beautiful horned demon floated inside. Its piercing blue eyes seemed to stare into the girl’s soul and grip her heart with unwanted emotions. “We don’t dabble in this sort of thing any longer,” Alexander said as he led his daughter away from that dark place. “We are men of science. The company has moved on to other projects.”

The visit to Coldharbor was supposed to convince his daughter to give up her mad pursuit of knowledge and become a ‘proper lady’ instead. But, where her father saw the captured succubus as Lucien’s greatest folly, Integra saw untapped potential. She neither loved nor hated Fey. Lucien’s lust had been his undoing; she never blamed Fey for his death. He saw the monster as a woman and that “woman” destroyed him. Integra would not make the same mistake. She studied the creature, but remained cold and detached as she did so. Fey was a force, no different from gravity or magnetism or the steam pressure in an engine. Forces could be harnessed.

Nearly a decade later, after years of secretly researching arcane theory, Integra slapped the blueprints for the Feyfalken on her father’s desk. “I’m going to build this,” she said. “You can either help me or get out of my way.” The rest is history.

Skills: Fey’s greatest skill is her ability to possess and control water (including ice and steam). She was once bound to the ship’s steamworks and her presence kept the Feyfalken’s engines operating at an impossible 100% efficiency. Despite being set free, she continued to voluntarily perform that function. Like all sirens, she also has an incredibly captivating singing voice. Her songs speak directly to the souls of mortals and can plant subversive thoughts, which can later manifest in dreams.

Misc: Fey is a siren, a type of water-elemental succubus, who feeds on the pleasure of others. She can siphon small amounts of power just by being around people who like her, but her main source of energy is through sexual intercourse. Despite the stories about sirens, it is very rare for a human to be killed by succumbing to temptation. Prolonged ‘intimate contact’ with Fey can cause mental fatigue and dizziness, but this is nothing a good night’s rest can’t solve. To actually die the victim would have to gratuitously overindulge. However, such obsessions are not unheard of…

    Happy to be here! :D

    Full Name: Geoffrey Avrin

    Gender/Age: Male/27

    Job: Archaeologist/Linguistics/Librarian

Appearance: Geof wears the standard uniform of the Feyfalken. He has light brown hair, thin framed glasses, and fine, almost delicate, features. His is 5'11, with a light build that evidences his preferred pastime of reading. His skin is pale, not to the point of sickness, but comes rather from long hours and days spent in libraries with his face in a book.

Personality: Geof is generally shy and timid. However he has a quick wit and a dry sense of humor that he only shows when he feels comfortable around people. He is very intelligent and has extensive knowledge on a wide variety of subjects, but what he has in intelligence he totally lacks in real world situations and therefore is often left far out of his depth when real life happens around him.

Background: Having grown up in Holdenheim, Geof was in the seat of technological advancement and knowledge. From a young age he showed a love of books and language uncharacteristic of a child, and was reading before he was five years old. His father was a soldier of Aeternia and was killed in one of the assaults on the north, leaving him and his mother and two younger sisters. His mother always worked hard to provide for them. Because of his fathers military service, they were given assistance from the government which allowed Geof to attend one of the universities in the capital where he studied archaeology and linguistics. After graduating he stayed on with the university as a professor and librarian. He devoted much time to studying myths and legends pertaining to the Sands of Desolation, even writing his Thesis on the subject.

When the expedition to the Sands was being planned, he was asked to be part of it as a consultant and researcher. He jumped at the opportunity, and immediately began packing, despite the fact that the expedition was not set to begin for some time.

Skills: Research and Linguistics. Geof is a treasure trove of information about the Sands of Desolation. He is also fluent in all of the languages spoken between the two kingdoms, with theoretical knowledge of at least two other long dead languages. According to his grandmother, he also displayed a certain 'magical sensitivity,' but that isn't something that he really believes in and has never actively tried to develop any ability.

Misc: His mothers side of the family may or may not have originated in Arcania...

Go ahead and post a character sheet. I can keep in the background, like an NPC, until you're ready to jump in.

This is going to be fun.

    Full Name:
    Trixianne (Trixy) Trayburn

    Gender/Age: 25 yr old Female

Job: Weaponsmith and Quartermaster (Assigning weapons, keeping track of where they are and making repairs as needed.)

    Appearance:
She has curly brown hair reaching her waist and a thorny rose tattoo starting at her left hip and curling up to her throat with a fist-sized rose resting on her right-collarbone.

Trixy's version of the Feyfalken uniform consists of the grayish blue trousers with the straps removed so they look like pants, and the white buttoned up shirt several buttons undone, showing just enough cleavage to draw eyes, as well as black knee-high laced boots.

Personality: Trixy has a loud personality. She is funny, smart mouthed, sarcastic, flirtatious and seemingly incapable of keeping a secret that doesn't regard herself. She's proud of her skills as a weapon's smith and lets everyone know it.

Background: Little is known about Trixy before she joined the Feyfalken. She claims that she is the daughter of a weapon smith who died several years ago, the shop dying with it. Since then she's been doing odd jobs and found a dangerous trip to the Sands of Desolation to her liking. Anything more about her past, she refuses to say.

Skills: Trixy can repair, modify and make just about any modern day weapon, with the right tools of course. She's also known the card games she hosts and her infamous poker face.

Well, I haven't received a doctor character sheet yet, so... yeah... I think your conscience can rest easy. Offer's still on the table.

You bring up a good point, but it's a big ship with a lot of crewmen (100+), nearly all of whom are NPCs. There's plenty of room for latecomers to jump in and take control of one of the many nameless red shirts *ahem* fine men and women aboard the Feyfalken. ;)

    Full Name: Gaspar Reddican

    Gender/Age: Male, 28

Job: cooks in the galley, hunts birds from the catwalks

Appearance: Gaspar is somewhat tall, but not so much that he couldn’t be called “average.” He has the strength, speed, and reflexes to survive on the catwalks outside of an airship, but not so much that you would consider his build to be very strong just to see him when he’s not doing anything.

He keeps himself shaved completely bald. He wears his aviation goggles and helmet all of the time, although the goggles are not normally over his eyes.

He is almost always smiling, and most people are either fooled by this or don’t give it much thought.

He has cut all of the buttons out of his uniform shirt and – sloppily – sewn the two sides together into a single solid shirt instead of leaving it as a button-up.

Personality: Internally, Gaspar is struggling to work through a maelstrom of identity and existential crises, but anytime his inner frustration slips through the mask of stability, he plays it off instead as the mental wounds of having allegedly suffered worse than most.

Outwardly, he presents himself as a chipper, friendly worker who’s able to put his child-like excitability on hold during a crisis, and even though some people have seen through this façade, he has – to the best of his knowledge – kept even them from guessing the reason why he creates the façade in the first place.

Background: Gaspar’s parents died when he was too young to remember them, and his earliest memories were not of the pain of losing them, but of the comfort he found in the “family” formed between the children at his orphanage and their caretakers. Despite being raised in an institution run by the Altamuran government, he never went of any of the country’s magical academies, so he never learned very many of the specific theories that his people had developed for how magic interacted with the world. Nonetheless, he still grew up with the idea that Arcania in general was right about how magic and science were compatible.

When he was in his late teens, the Aeternian border-town of Talos was obliterated – a loss which Aeternia blames as an Arcanian attack but which Arcania insists to have been a “magical natural disaster” – and Gaspar volunteered when the government offered to train a handful of the boys for an espionage mission: be smuggled across the border, integrate themselves into an Aeternian city under the guise of Talosian refugees, and eventually join the Aeternian military-scientific complex, ostensibly seeking “revenge” for Arcania’s “war crime.”

During his years in Aeternia, however, Gaspar was constantly surprised by how well their scientists had found “real” explanations for occurrences that his own scientists had “written off” as otherworldly. He had spent his whole life believing that his people had found the balance between explaining what they could and being comfortable with what they couldn’t, and that Aeternia was the one spending too much time and effort trying to explain what they ultimately couldn’t; but every time he saw the Aeternian scholars do something without magic that his own people couldn’t even with magic, he became more and more disillusioned with what he saw as the only reason that the bloodshed had started in the first place.

When Gaspar heard that an expedition was being sent to the Sands of Desolation – the one place in the world that he knew his own people to be truly afraid of – he worked his way into the crew, hoping to find some kind of unknown truth that neither side’s propaganda had gotten a chance to distort.

Skills: Gaspar is extremely good at acting friendly and making people want to like him, very good at coming up with meal ideas for the crew to enjoy even on tight rations, and reasonably accurate with the spear-guns used for reeling in fowl meat (although he gets a lot of second chances, given that the spears have to be tethered to the guns in order to be any kind of useful in the first place).

@Simpson17866 Your character sounds very different! I like it. Him and Geof should interact since Geof's family 'may or may not' have come from Arcania. :D

@Love to Write Trixy is going to make Geof very uncomfortable for a good segment of the time I think!

    Full Name: Christoph Sabre
    Gender/Age: Male, 27

    Job: Security Officer

Appearance: 5'9 tanned lean well defined muscular build. Christoph keeps his black hair trimmed short usually only just longer than his well trimmed beard and moustache. Keeps the side burns trimmed after a scar on his right side stretching from just below his ear across to his jaw stopped the facial hair from growing due to a bar fight gone nasty involving a broken bottle. A flat nose that has been broken one to many times. Dark haunted blue eyes that tend to be accompanied with bags under the eyes these days.

Wears a customised belt that as well as containing the standard issue security weapon also holsters a serrated curved blade and a small selection of tools for basic tinkering with machinery. Sticks to standard issue clothing but disregards the no jewellery rule and refuses to part with a series of pendants and necklaces that he keeps around his neck.

Personality: Christoph is an adrenaline junkie, drawn to anything that can get his blood pumping and that is generally not even contemplated by the general public. He earned himself a reputation as an act first, deal with the consequences later kind of guy which quickly earnt him several hospital visits and changed a lot of peoples ideas on what could and could not be attempted in extreme activities such as wingsuit flight.

Christoph can appear cocky and arrogant to others but if you can earn his trust he is a loyal friend willing to do anything.

Background: Christoph attended Holdenheim university to study Engineering specialising in flight. While his academic career was successful he earnt his real reputation amongst the students as the first known student to jump off the university tower in his custom wing suit and use it to land on the taller clock tower of the royal palace as part of a bet. This stint also put him in touch with the Palace Guard and earnt up a week in holding.

It was here that Christoph made his best friend Xavier, ironically one of the guards that had spotted his stunt. A year later Xavier had convinced Christoph to join the military and they found themselves specialising in wing suit assaults and espionage raids. Xavier acted as the crucial restraint and grounding Christoph needed to make sure his reckless streak didn't wind up with him in trouble or dead.

When Xavier died in an assault Christoph blames himself for Christoph turned to drink and found himself in serious debt to the wrong kind of people. Calling in the last of his favours Christoph managed to secure himself a job as a security officer in the Feyfalken with the hope that he has found the one place those he owes may not pursue him. Now he just needs to tackle his depression and drink problem to ensure he manages to keep that place.

Skills: A pro in a wing suit due to his willingness to risk everything and try new things. Christoph knows how to handle himself in a fight thanks to one to many scraps as he tends to act before thinking through the consequences or failing to fear them.

Has a reasonable understanding in Engineering and when unable to pursue his sports (usually due to injury) he turns to tinkering with gadgets that could aid him.

An ability to rub people up the wrong way and get into out of hand bets.

    Full Name: Maddox Wraith

    Gender/Age: Male, 35 years old

    Job: Mercenary/adventurer/professional vagabond

Appearance: Maddox is a 6' 1" average-built fellow, and has aged early, resulting in short, greying hair and crow's-feet eyes. His body is well-built without being powerful, and his smile is enough even to charm the most noble of people.

He wears brown 'plus-fours' breeches and a colourful shirt made from the clothing of the "important" people he has killed – mainly greens and dark browns.

Personality: Maddox is an honest man, but to the extreme – he will happily tell someone what he truly thinks of them or an idea. He is a womanizer and frequently gets the woman he wants, made easier by his good looks and confident demeanour. However, he is willing to obey orders when money is involved, although this is usually spent on new equipment and women – rarely does he have enough to spend a night with a roof over his head. He can sometimes fight with men of similar personality, namely their confidence and superiority, but when the time comes, he is ready to do his duty.

Background: Not a great deal is known of Maddox's family, but the "Wraith" surname is synonymous with bloodshed, adventure, and money-making. Maddox’s father was an assassin, though preferring to take assignment which eliminated people on the lower rungs of the social ladder. His mother was a prostitute, which allowed Maddox to believe that women are mainly objects used to satisfy the whims of men.

However, even less is known about Maddox himself, as he has been a nomad since he left home at seventeen, preferring to use money for clothing, equipment, and accessories. Rarely does he worry about looks, because rarely has he had to; the majority of women are his for the taking. Nowadays, he specialises in stealing, cheating, and persuading his way to the top, constantly looking for new adventures and new cash.

He was hired for the Feyfalken mainly because he happened to be at the right place at the right time; the admissions officer happened to see his astonishing hand-to-hand combat in a street-fight, and told him about the expedition. The officer became even more interested when she learned that he was of the Wraith family, and that he was an extraordinary survivalist and thief. Maddox said he would do it, but only if he was awarded double the normal coinage for such a mission, and that he would receive it upfront. The officer reluctantly agreed, and so he stands on the Feyfalken, clearly the black sheep of the group.

Skills: He is astounding in hand-to-hand combat, and is also skilful with daggers and other small weapons. Pickpocketing and being furtive is as easy to him as breathing, and he is a natural survivor. However, his skill with guns is appalling to say the least, and he can just as often talk his way into a bad situation as much as he can talk himself out of one.

Misc: He is also known by those around him as "The Mad Wraith", "The Wraith", or "Wraith" simply because of his potency and intensity in stealth and combat, as well as in his conversations.

    First post is up. :D

Basically, it's launch day. Your characters are probably just waking up (you most likely spent the night at an inn or hotel, unless you actually live in Holdenheim). Most of your gear and stuff is aboard the ship, so just grab your "carry ons" and get to Hangar Nine and board the Feyfalken. You can board via the main catwalk and meet your captain(s) or slip in through the cargo bay, where lots of laborers are still loading supplies.

First post up, exciting stuff. At some point I'll find a chance to brag about my wingsuit to explain a bit about why I'm not mush on a pavement long ago. Looking forward to this.
