    Zombie Story

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by darklordbob, Jun 10, 2008.

So, I had a random little idea about a story wherein a person comes back to life as a zombie, with all his memories and his sanity intact, but because of how much he has decomposed, he has your generic zombie shamble, and can't talk. They all run away in fear. He goes in search of his old life, while being chased by a zombie hunter and trying to communicate with people. This would probably start as a comedy, and grow more serious and sad as the story progressed, and it showed more and more of what he's missing and what he's lost, not to mention fighting for survival.

    Any thoughts?

I think it sounds like a storyline idea, which will be as good or as bad as the characterization and the writing that develops it.

These are meaningless queries. Do you want people to tell you it's been done before? Of course it has! So has nearly any other storyline you can conceive of.

Never ask what anyone else thinks of a nascent story idea. Create the characters, write the story, and polish it up as much as you can. Then, and only then, is there a meaningful response to "What do you think of it?"

I agree with Cogito, you would have to make the characters and write the story before anyone could give their full veiw on this plot.

As the others have said, you should develop the idea more and repost it. Is your character original? What quirks and characteristics does he have? What was he like throughout his life? What did he achieve? What does he regret?
Also, how are you going to resolve this story? What possible outcomes are there? Will your zombie communicate with others eventually? How are you going to explain is coming back to life? What happens to him at the end of the story?
It all comes down to originality and your skill as a writer.

Well obviously the zombie is going to have to find a way to become acceptable to move around in society. Maybe he'll have to wrap himself up like the invisible man, or find a doctor or someone crazy enough to provide him with artifical skin so he can get where he is going. If he can't talk or walk right, he'd have to learn to type or write out everything he wants to communicate with, like in planet of the apes where Taylor couldn't talk.

The real question is what purpose does a zombie serve in the real world? Why is he alive and what message does he have to bring to the people he is trying to reunite with? Maybe because he is from beyond the grave, perhaps he can turn himself over to science and they can create some sort of superman who can't die or feel pain. build machines into him and have a role like in the superhero movies where he lurks in the shadows bringing justice to those who are beyond the law. Yeah, you've got a good idea there.

By the way, is there such a thing as a zombie hunter? That's got to be a lousy job, like hunting bigfoot.
