Novel Using songs and television programs?

Discussion in 'Genre Discussions' started by Youngy, Oct 29, 2009.

    Hello.
I am currently writing a novel. It is based around music and as such I need to mention songs and television programs through the story.
I just wondered if you are allowed to do this?
And wondered if you needed premission to mention the songs and programs in my writing?

if you want to be a writer, you need to do your homework and study up on the legal and business side of the profession... here's where you'll find the answers to all questions related to what you can and can't use: www.copyright.gov

that's for the us, but all countries that are signatories to the bern convention will have similar laws...
