    Earworms

Discussion in 'Entertainment' started by Tenderiser, May 21, 2016.

I can't be the only one on the forum who constantly has an earworm (a song that gets stuck in one's head).

Today, it's Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell. It played on the radio while I was driving, and one line has been going round and round my head ever since.

I'm used to earworms but on the odd occasion they bother me, the only way I know to get rid of them is to listen to the song in full a couple of times. It's hit and miss.

Better than a tapeworm, right? Look on the bright side.

Anyone else? What's your earworm today?

I have different ones each day. Depends on what I was listening to when going to sleep and I combat them with my playlist which has some pretty awesome music on it. Also earworms, now that I think about it :)

Currently? Ramstein and 'Ich will'. But that is the song I am listening to right now so I don't know what I will wake up with..

Here is my earworm of the day, and it doesn't have lyrics only a lovely tune. :p

And I know it is way mellower than what I normally enjoy. If this thread had popped up like a week ago I would have said: Ektomorph-Holocaust. :p

You will not believe this, but today's earworm is the repetitive 'tune' a blackbird has been singing outside the house. It's driving me absolutely nuts, and even after he momentarily moves on, the damn song sticks in my head. He's been doing this for weeks now. I don't remember a blackbird ever doing this before.

For some reason I like listening to video game music, and the Silent Hill series has a lot of good music including some decent lyricals.
    Quite catchy;

Huh, this is odd. I don't think I ever get MUSIC stuck in my head, just lyrics.

Having been a working musician in the past, I've always got music stuck in my head. ATM, it's Stop in the Name of Love. (Why? I don't know.)

But having memorized a crap-load of music for stage performances, there's always something playing on my mental jukebox.

You've been claimed. There's probably a nest nearby and he's patrolling the territory. We've got one doing the same thing at the moment.

    The rough translation is:

This tree? MY tree. No-one else has a tree as good as this. You happen to find yourself in this tree, you can fuck right off. Because MY tree.

Does 'yours' sing the same song over and over and over? Like I said, we've lived with blackbirds (including several that built nests) in our yard over the years, and this is the first time we've had a repetitive song that I've noticed. I was just out doing some gardening, and had to come in because I was getting too upset. It really is hard to deal with. It's really loud, and really close by. First the tree, then the roof, then the neighbour's tree, then the back yard, then back to the roof, etc. And this isn't because I'm out in the garden either. It goes on all day long. Started a couple of weeks ago. I'm hoping that it is protecting the nest, and once the birds hatch it will stop. But I'm honestly puzzled as to where this 'call' came from. I have never heard it before from a bird. It's like somebody's mobile phone with a particularly annoying ringtone going off all day long, and nobody answers it ...and the battery never runs down.

I guess it's iPod and earphones time.

One or two constantly repeated phrases, yeah. Some blackbirds have a variety of calls, some only have a couple. I'm not totally sure why. Maybe it has the same earworm and it's trying to get rid of it.

This one is stuck in my head today. I'm learning to play it, so it periodically pops in my brain and plays over and over until I get up and pluck out what I know.

Yes, the Imperial March from Star Wars is in my head, and it came to me when I was writing a scene where I introduce one of my major characters in my fantasy. The weird thing is, this character isn't even a villain!

    Hmmm...foreboding much? :bigeek:

If I may take a short deviation from gentle piano music, sci-fi theme tunes and emo... today I've managed to get this little ditty stuck in my head. I blame my colleague for getting us onto the subject of sideboards. Although really it was my fault; I started it by saying I can never spell bureau and let spell check do it for me.

Taylor Swift's I Knew You Were Trouble :supermad:

I don't even listen to Swift. But then I heard this one song -- one song -- and it's been stuck in my head for days.
