How to show characters when their angry, happy, sad etc.?

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by 33percent, Jul 17, 2018.

When I wrote my rough draft, well puking it on paper and I did a lot of telling. I am now going back converting all the "telling" to "showing". How do I show the character either angry, confused, sad, happy, annoyed, in multiple times through out the book as showing? especially confused. I know in real life our faces give obvious body language if we're either happy or angry for example. Do I only tell in obvious times, to cut to the chase?

You don't have to convert ALL of it.

Do you have, maybe, three short examples of something that you want to change? Or you could put a piece in the Review Room with this question.

Reading is your friend, too. Every single book has that showing of emotions and you'd be surprised how many different ways there are to do it.

Context too. If you set your characters up properly, readers can often infer how they will react/feel during the scene.
