Career Marines in Vietnam and RR/Leave between tours?

Discussion in 'Research' started by Alesia, Jun 2, 2014.

My MC's father was a career Marine who served multiple tours in Vietnam while she was a child. I wanted to mention something about him coming home shortly, then leaving again but I don't know if that is historically accurate. Say a soldier has finished a one year tour on the battlefield would it be plausible that he would return to the states for week or so before being shipped back for his second tour?

Vietnam tours were for thirteen months, and Marines in those days earned thirty days of leave per year, so he could have been home for a month or so.
